Job Summary
Global Training at Bain builds capabilities through a range of learning options. This includes live virtual and in-person programs, apprenticeship, coaching, mentoring, social, and self-directed digital learning. We are expanding the range and reach of digital/online learning at Bain through "next generation" content and engaging learner experiences. The Specialist, Digital Learning Design will collaborate with content developers and subject matter experts (SMEs) to determine skills gaps/learning needs, design/develop high quality learning solutions, and partner with internal teams and external vendors to manage the content production process. The role is focused on digital learning design and development.
Essential Functions:
Partner with content teams to determine skill gaps/learning needs for Bain audiences for existing or new content
- Conduct needs assessments to develop the basis for content development; separate ""nice to know"" from ""need to know"" (content limiting)
- Perform user experience research to develop deep understanding of Bain population workflows
- Identify learning and performance objectives based on needs assessments
- Recommend design approaches based on information such as instructional effectiveness data, current or future performance requirements, feasibility, and cost
- Assess effectiveness and efficiency of solutions and content according to ease of use, achievement of learning outcomes, knowledge transfer, and Net Promoter Score
Design/Develop/Curate high quality learning solutions using proven instructional design methodologies, adult learning theory, and relevant Bain experience
- Develop and update content, individually or in collaboration with departments, practice areas, experts or consulting staff, in accordance with the annual content plan
- Research, brainstorm, and storyboard concepts for a variety of learning interactions
- Design and build visually compelling, high impact and interactive learning modules and experiences using instructional design principles
- Identify the appropriate method to achieve the desired outcomes, incorporating best practices in instructional design and blended learning
- Adapt instructional materials created for one format to another (e.g. face-to-face to digital learning)
- Provide technical advice on instructional design methods and the use of current instructional technologies
- Workplan, manage projects to deadlines, facilitate effective reviews with SMEs and stakeholders
- Conduct testing, quality assurance and troubleshooting -- demonstrating strong attention to detail
- Apply Bain brand guidelines and accessibility requirements
Partner with external vendors and internal Bain teams to manage the content production process
- Produce storyboards and digital learning/microlearning to a high standard
- Collaborate with internal & vendor teams to ensure projects are completed on time and on budget
- Follow and create ‘best demonstrated practices’ (BDPs) for critical experience design functions including vendor management, curation, graphics, video and mobile learning.
Education
Required - BA/BS or equivalent, with strong academic credentials or equivalent experience
Preferred - Concentration in learning technology, instructional design, education, or multimedia/design (or relevant certifications)
Experience
- 2+ years of experience developing learning content using principles and methods for instructional design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of outcomes
- 2+ years of experience with content development including experience using digital learning and multimedia development software (authoring software, video creation tools, graphic development tools, etc.)
- Experience with digital learning authoring tools (e.g. Articulate, Captivate)
- Experience creating audio/video assets (using tools like Audacity, Sound Forge, iMovie, Premiere, Camtasia, Final Cut)
- Experience partnering with vendors to manage production process of digital learning assets
- Experience with design thinking, user experience, and user interface design
- Knowledge of basic coding and website design a plus
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required:
- Knowledge of human behaviour and performance; learning and motivation; qualitative and quantitative research methods
- Knowledge of SCORM, xAPI and learning management/content management systems
- Experience with mobile/social/online learning tools and platforms
- Passion for business and learning, intellectual curiosity, and learning agility
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels with limited supervision
- Ability to take initiative, lead project execution, propose and execute changes -- escalating blockers appropriately
- Ability to prioritize, self-motivate and work semi-autonomously with strong time management skills
- Strong knowledge of productivity tools, including Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word
- Knowledge of AI tools to improve efficiency and effectiveness
