E-Commerce Merchandiser – Product Development & Marketplace

About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on E-Commerce Merchandiser who can manage the complete product merchandising cycle — from identifying what is selling online and developing new products to getting the product manufactured, finalising costing and packaging, preparing marketplace listings, and coordinating the final listing on Amazon, Myntra and Flipkart.
This is not a conventional merchandising role. The person should understand products, online marketplaces, suppliers, costing, Excel/Google Sheets, content, AI tools and product development.
The ideal candidate should be someone who can independently identify opportunities and turn them into commercially viable products.
Key Responsibilities1. Product Development
- Research products and categories performing well on Amazon, Myntra, Flipkart and other online marketplaces.
- Analyse competitors, pricing, designs, fabrics, sizes, GSM, features, packaging and customer reviews.
- Identify gaps in the market and suggest new products and product variations.
- Develop new bedsheets, comforters and other home textile products based on online demand and trends.
- Coordinate with the production team from concept to final product.
- Prepare product specifications, measurements, fabric requirements, construction details and other development requirements.
- Regularly introduce new products so that the online catalogue remains fresh and competitive.
2. Production & Supplier Coordination
- Coordinate closely with the production team for bedsheets, comforters and other products.
- Coordinate with suppliers for fabrics, accessories, packaging and other requirements.
- Obtain quotations and compare supplier pricing.
- Negotiate with suppliers to achieve the best possible cost without compromising quality.
- Follow up on samples, production, timelines and deliveries.
- Ensure products are developed according to the required specifications and target costing.
3. Costing & Cost Control
- Prepare detailed product costing.
- Calculate fabric consumption, stitching, processing, packaging, accessories, transportation and other relevant costs.
- Work towards achieving target margins and reducing unnecessary costs.
- Compare supplier rates and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Maintain updated costing sheets for all products.
- Assist management in deciding product selling price, marketplace price and promotional price.
4. Marketplace Merchandising & Listings
The candidate should be capable of independently handling or preparing everything required for marketplace listings on:
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing complete listing files.
- Product titles and descriptions.
- Product features/highlights.
- Specifications and attributes.
- Search keywords and relevant content.
- Size, colour, fabric, GSM and other product information.
- Images and image requirements.
- Marketplace-specific templates and upload files.
- Coordinating with the E-Commerce Manager/listing team for final uploads.
- Checking live listings for accuracy and completeness.
- Ensuring products are properly represented online.
5. Excel & Google Sheets
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets is essential.
The candidate will be expected to:
- Maintain product and stock sheets.
- Track production and supplier orders.
- Maintain costing sheets.
- Prepare MIS and reports.
- Track inventory and product movement.
- Maintain marketplace/product databases.
- Compare supplier costs.
- Analyse product performance and sales data.
- Identify slow-moving and fast-moving products.
- Use spreadsheets to support purchasing, product development and cost control.
6. AI & Creative Tools
The candidate should be comfortable using AI tools such as ChatGPT and Gemini for day-to-day work.
They should be able to use AI for:
- Product research.
- Competitor research.
- Product ideas.
- Product descriptions.
- Marketplace content.
- SEO-oriented listing content.
- Market and trend research.
- Product naming.
- Creative concepts.
- Image generation and editing.
Knowledge of tools such as Canva, Photoshop, Adobe Firefly or other AI/graphic-design tools will be an advantage.
The candidate should also be capable of helping generate product images and marketplace creatives using AI, either independently or by coordinating with the design team.
7. Market & Competitor Research
- Regularly research Amazon, Myntra, Flipkart and other online platforms.
- Track trending products, designs, colours, fabrics, price points and customer preferences.
- Study competitor listings and identify opportunities.
- Analyse customer reviews to understand what customers like and dislike.
- Track new launches and market trends.
- Convert market research into actionable product-development ideas.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for someone who:
- Has at least 3 years of relevant experience in e-commerce merchandising, product merchandising, home textiles, fashion/textiles or a related category.
- Has practical experience with Amazon, Myntra and Flipkart.
- Understands online product listings and marketplace requirements.
- Has strong Excel and Google Sheets skills.
- Has experience dealing with suppliers and obtaining quotations.
- Is comfortable negotiating prices and working towards the best possible costing.
- Has experience in product development or is capable of independently taking a product from concept to development.
- Has good understanding of fabrics, measurements, product specifications and manufacturing processes.
- Is comfortable using ChatGPT, Gemini and AI tools.
- Has an eye for product presentation, design and online trends.
- Is analytical and commercially minded.
- Can work independently and take ownership rather than waiting for instructions for every task.
- Has strong communication and follow-up skills.
What Success Looks Like
The person should eventually be able to take ownership of a product like this:
Market research → Identify opportunity → Develop product → Source material → Get costing → Negotiate supplier → Coordinate production → Finalise packaging → Prepare images → Prepare marketplace content → Prepare listing file → Coordinate listing → Monitor performance → Improve/redevelop product.
The goal is to build a continuous pipeline of new, competitive and profitable products for the online business.
