1. JOB PURPOSE
To deliver effective and engaging Computer Science education to students at the middle and secondary school levels. The teacher will develop students’ computational thinking, programming skills, digital literacy, problem-solving abilities and responsible use of technology through curriculum-aligned and practical learning experiences.
2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIESA. Teaching & Learning
- Plan and deliver structured Computer Science lessons in accordance with the prescribed curriculum and school academic plan.
- Teach programming, computer fundamentals, information technology, computational thinking and other relevant areas of the curriculum.
- Develop students’ logical reasoning, problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Use practical, activity-based and student-centred teaching methodologies.
- Conduct hands-on laboratory sessions and practical activities.
- Integrate appropriate digital tools, educational applications and technology into classroom teaching.
- Encourage students to explore emerging technologies and develop an interest in technology.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the learning needs of students with varied abilities.
B. Programming & Technical Skills
- Teach programming concepts and languages appropriate to the school curriculum, such as Python, Java, HTML/CSS, SQL or other prescribed languages.
- Develop students’ understanding of algorithms, flowcharts, data structures and computational thinking.
- Guide students in developing age-appropriate software applications, websites, coding projects and presentations.
- Troubleshoot basic technical and programming issues during practical sessions.
- Encourage participation in coding, robotics, technology and innovation-related activities.
C. Assessment & Academic Progress
- Prepare and conduct class tests, assignments, projects, practical assessments and examinations.
- Evaluate students’ theoretical and practical work accurately and provide constructive feedback.
- Maintain appropriate records of student performance and academic progress.
- Identify students who require additional academic support and provide remedial instruction.
- Prepare students for periodic tests, examinations and competency-based assessments.
- Participate in question-paper setting, moderation and evaluation as required.
D. Computer Laboratory Management
- Ensure that students follow proper laboratory rules and safety procedures.
- Supervise students during practical sessions.
- Coordinate with the IT/technical team regarding hardware, software and connectivity issues.
- Report technical problems and ensure timely resolution.
- Maintain proper records of laboratory equipment and resources, where required.
- Promote responsible and safe use of computers, internet and digital resources.
E. Classroom Management & Student Development
- Maintain discipline and create a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Encourage active participation, collaboration and responsible digital behaviour.
- Develop students’ confidence in using technology and solving technical problems.
- Guide students in project work, research and technology-based assignments.
- Promote awareness of cyber safety, digital citizenship, online privacy and responsible technology usage.
- Follow the school’s child protection, safeguarding, No-Touch Policy and other institutional policies.
F. Curriculum & Resource Development
- Prepare lesson plans, worksheets, presentations, practical exercises and other teaching resources.
- Develop coding exercises, projects and practical activities appropriate to students’ learning levels.
- Contribute to curriculum planning and enrichment programmes.
- Keep subject knowledge and teaching resources updated in line with current technological developments.
- Participate in departmental planning and academic reviews.
G. Parent & Stakeholder Communication
- Communicate professionally with parents regarding students’ academic progress and performance.
- Attend parent-teacher meetings and provide appropriate feedback.
- Work collaboratively with HODs, coordinators, teachers, counsellors and school leadership.
- Address student-related academic concerns promptly and professionally.
H. School Activities & Additional Responsibilities
- Encourage and mentor students participating in coding, robotics, STEM, technology and innovation competitions.
- Participate in assemblies, celebrations, school events, field trips and co-curricular activities.
- Support examination duties, invigilation, substitution and other academic responsibilities.
- Participate in staff meetings, training programmes and professional development initiatives.
- Take up additional responsibilities assigned by the HOD, Academic Coordinator or Principal.
3. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Applications or a relevant discipline.
- B.Ed. is mandatory for the TGT – Computer Science position.
- Candidates should have a strong academic background in Computer Science/IT.
- Strong command of English, both written and spoken.
- Relevant teaching experience at the middle/secondary school level is preferred.
Note: Candidates without a B.Ed. qualification will not be considered for the TGT position, unless specifically permitted under the applicable school/board recruitment requirements.
4. REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Strong knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals.
- Programming knowledge in relevant languages such as Python, Java or other curriculum-prescribed languages.
- Knowledge of HTML/CSS, databases and basic networking is preferred.
- Familiarity with coding platforms and educational technology.
- Ability to conduct computer laboratory and practical sessions.
- Knowledge of cyber safety and digital citizenship.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic software and hardware issues.
