We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer 1/2 with strong Guidewire ClaimCenter expertise to design, develop, and maintain our enterprise claims management platform. You will work on complex claim workflows, integrations, and business logic while collaborating with cross-functional teams including Business Analysts, QA, Product Owners, and Claims Operations. This role requires deep technical skills in Guidewire development and solid understanding of insurance claims processes (FNOL, reserving, payments, subrogation, litigation management).
1. Guidewire ClaimCenter Development (60%)
- Configuration & Customization:
- Configure ClaimCenter using GOSU (Guidewire Object Script Utility) for complex business logic
- Develop custom PCFs (Page Configuration Files) for UI enhancements
- Create and modify claim workflows, business rules, and validation rules
- Build custom screens, wizards, and dashboards for claims adjusters and managers
- Implement localization and state-specific regulatory requirements (50-state compliance)
- Data Model Extensions:
- Extend ClaimCenter data model (entities, typelists, type keys) to meet business requirements
- Design and implement custom tables for specialized claim types (workers' comp, liability, property)
- Maintain referential integrity and data quality across claim lifecycle
- Integrations:
- Develop integrations between ClaimCenter and external systems (policy admin, billing, document management, vendor networks)
- Build web services (SOAP/REST) for third-party system connectivity
- Implement message queues (Apache Kafka, IBM MQ) for asynchronous processing
- Integrate with vendor APIs (Xactimate for property estimates, ISO ClaimSearch for fraud detection, medical networks for workers' comp)
2. Technical Design & Architecture (20%)
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical recommendations for new features
- Create technical design documents (TDDs) for complex enhancements
- Ensure solutions align with Guidewire best practices and architectural standards
- Collaborate with architects on scalability, performance, and maintainability
- Conduct code reviews for peer developers and provide constructive feedback
Architectural Considerations:
- Multi-tenancy design patterns (if supporting multiple business units/states)
- High-availability and disaster recovery requirements
- Performance optimization for high-volume claim environments (100K+ claims/year)
- Security patterns (role-based access control, data encryption, audit logging)
3. Collaboration & Stakeholder Management (15%)
- Partner with Business Analysts to translate requirements into technical specifications
- Work with Claims Operations to understand adjuster workflows and pain points
- Participate in agile ceremonies (sprint planning, daily standups, retrospectives)
- Provide technical guidance to junior developers and offshore teams
- Present technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders (product owners, claims managers)
4. Testing, Deployment & Support (5%)
- Write unit tests (Gosu Unit Test framework) with 80%+ code coverage
- Support QA team in integration testing and UAT (User Acceptance Testing)
- Participate in production deployments (blue-green deployments, rollback procedures)
- Provide Level 3 production support (troubleshoot complex claim processing issues)
- Document technical solutions, runbooks, and knowledge base articles
Experience:
- 5-8 years total software development experience
- 3+ years hands-on Guidewire ClaimCenter development (versions 10.x or higher preferred)
- 2+ years insurance claims domain experience (property, casualty, workers' comp, or auto)
- Experience with full software development lifecycle (SDLC) in agile environments
Technical Skills:
Guidewire Proficiency (Must Have):
- ✅ GOSU Programming: Strong proficiency in GOSU language for business logic, validations, calculations
- ✅ PCF Development: Create/modify Page Configuration Files (XML-based UI)
- ✅ Data Model: Extend entities, create custom tables, manage typelists
- ✅ Business Rules: Configure rules engine, validation rules, assignment rules
- ✅ Workflow Configuration: Design/modify claim workflows (FNOL, reserve approval, payment authorization)
- ✅ Guidewire Studio: Proficient in Guidewire Studio IDE for development and debugging
- ✅ Integration Gateway: Experience with Guidewire Integration Gateway (GIG) for web services
Core Technologies (Must Have):
- ✅ Java: Strong Java skills (GOSU is Java-based, JVM knowledge essential)
- ✅ SQL/RDBMS: Advanced SQL (Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MS SQL Server) - complex queries, stored procedures, performance tuning
- ✅ XML/XSLT: For data transformations, integration mappings
- ✅ Web Services: SOAP and REST API development/consumption
- ✅ Version Control: Git/Bitbucket for code management

Claim lifecycle: FNOL Investigation Reserving Settlement

- Loss types: Property (fire, water, wind, hail), Auto (collision, comprehensive, liability), Workers' Comp (medical, indemnity), General Liability
- Reserving concepts: Case reserves, IBNR (Incurred But Not Reported), LAE (Loss Adjustment Expense)
- Payment types: Indemnity, medical, legal, vendor payments
- Subrogation and recovery processes
- Litigation management basics
Regulatory Compliance (Preferred):
- Understanding of state-specific insurance regulations (workers' comp benefit tables, auto no-fault laws, etc.)
- HIPAA compliance for medical claims data
- SOC 2, audit logging requirements
Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication (technical documentation, stakeholder presentations)
- Ability to work independently and in distributed teams (India, US, offshore)
