About the Role
We are looking for an Automation QA / SDET with 5+ years of experience to design, build, and maintain enterprise-grade test automation frameworks using WebdriverIO (WDIO), Selenium, and Playwright. You will bring strong technical automation skills across UI, API, and E2E testing — embedding quality as a first-class concern across Agile delivery teams. This is a hands-on technical role requiring strong coding ability, deep automation framework expertise, and a shift-left quality mindset.
Key Responsibilities
Test Automation & Framework Development
- Design, build, and maintain scalable test automation frameworks using WebdriverIO (WDIO), Selenium WebDriver, and Playwright — supporting UI, functional, regression, and E2E testing across web applications.
- Develop JavaScript / TypeScript-based automation scripts — writing clean, maintainable, and reusable test code aligned to engineering best practices.
- Build and maintain BDD test frameworks using Cucumber and Gherkin — collaborating with product owners and BAs to define business-readable acceptance criteria and automated test scenarios.
- Develop REST API test automation suites using Postman, RestAssured, or equivalent — covering API contracts, authentication flows, and business logic validation.
- Write unit and integration tests using JUnit or Mockito — collaborating with developers to improve code testability and test coverage.
- Design and execute cross-browser and cross-device test suites — ensuring consistent application behaviour across Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge.
- Implement visual regression testing — using Applitools, Percy, or equivalent — for UI consistency validation across releases.
- Design and execute performance and load tests using JMeter or k6 — validating application scalability and response time under load.
CI/CD & Shift-Left Quality
- Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines — Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions — implementing quality gates that prevent defective code from reaching production.
- Champion shift-left testing practices — engaging with developers and architects early in the delivery lifecycle to define testability requirements and prevent defects at source.
- Configure test reporting and observability — Allure, ExtentReports, or ReportPortal — providing clear, actionable quality metrics for engineering and stakeholder audiences.
- Implement contract testing using Pact or equivalent — validating API contracts and preventing integration failures across service boundaries.
- Support shift-right testing — synthetic monitoring and production validation strategies.
Collaboration & Delivery
- Collaborate with developers, product owners, BAs, and DevOps teams — contributing to Agile sprint delivery from requirements through to production deployment.
- Participate in code reviews of automation scripts — ensuring framework quality, maintainability, and adherence to coding standards.
- Manage defect triage and reporting — logging, prioritising, and tracking defects in Jira with clear business impact assessment.
- Produce clear QA documentation — test plans, test cases, traceability matrices, and defect reports.
- Mentor and coach junior QA / automation engineers — sharing WDIO, Selenium, and Playwright expertise across the team.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of test automation experience with strong hands-on expertise in WebdriverIO (WDIO), Selenium WebDriver, and Playwright.
- Strong JavaScript / TypeScript skills — writing production-quality automation code in a modern JS / TS ecosystem.
- Proven BDD framework experience — Cucumber / Gherkin — for business-readable test scenario automation.
- Solid API testing expertise — Postman, RestAssured, or equivalent — covering REST API contract and business logic validation.
- Strong CI/CD integration experience — Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions — embedding quality gates and automated test suites into delivery pipelines.
- Good understanding of cross-browser and cross-device testing — ensuring consistent application behaviour across multiple browsers and platforms.
- Experience with test reporting tools — Allure, ExtentReports, or ReportPortal — for clear, actionable quality metrics.
- Strong understanding of shift-left testing practices — engaging early in the delivery lifecycle to define testability and quality requirements.
- Good communication and collaboration skills — working effectively across developers, product owners, and DevOps teams.
- Proficiency with Git for version control and test code management.
Nice to Have
- Experience with visual regression testing — Applitools or Percy.
- Performance and load testing — JMeter or k6 — for application scalability validation.
- Contract testing — Pact or Spring Cloud Contract — for API contract validation.
- Mobile test automation — Appium or Playwright Mobile — for cross-platform testing.
- Accessibility testing — WCAG standards and Axe tools.
- AI-assisted testing tools — Mabl, Testim, or Functionize — for self-healing automation.
- ISTQB Foundation or Advanced — Test Automation Engineer certification.
- Experience in Financial Services, Banking, or regulated industry environments.
