Laser Robot Programmer – Robotic Laser Cutting

Job Summary
The Laser Robot Programmer will be responsible for programming, operating, optimizing, and troubleshooting robotic laser cutting systems to ensure high-quality production with maximum machine efficiency. The role requires expertise in robotic programming, laser cutting processes, fixture validation, cycle time optimization, and continuous process improvement.
Key ResponsibilitiesRobotic Programming
- Develop and modify robotic laser cutting programs.
- Create new programs for new product development.
- Optimize robot paths for reduced cycle time.
- Perform offline and online robot programming.
- Ensure safe robot movements and collision-free operation.
Laser Cutting Operations
- Set up robotic laser cutting jobs.
- Optimize laser parameters based on material thickness.
- Maintain dimensional accuracy throughout production.
- Minimize burr formation and thermal distortion.
- Monitor cut quality and productivity.
Process Optimization
- Reduce cycle time through robot path optimization.
- Improve machine utilization and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Reduce scrap and rework through process improvements.
- Support production ramp-up for new products.
Troubleshooting
- Diagnose robot programming issues.
- Resolve laser cutting quality problems.
- Support maintenance during robot breakdowns.
- Perform root cause analysis using 5 Why and Fishbone methods.
- Coordinate with maintenance for preventive actions.
Fixture & Tool Validation
- Verify fixture accuracy before production.
- Validate robot reach and accessibility.
- Ensure proper workpiece positioning.
- Recommend fixture improvements where required.
Quality Control
- Ensure compliance with engineering drawings and specifications.
- Conduct first-off inspections after program changes.
- Maintain required dimensional tolerances.
- Support customer quality requirements and audits.
Documentation
- Maintain robot program backups.
- Prepare program revision records.
- Document parameter sheets and setup instructions.
- Maintain process improvement records.
Safety
- Follow all robotic safety procedures.
- Ensure laser safety compliance.
- Adhere to PPE and lockout/tagout requirements.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area using 5S principles.
Required SkillsTechnical Skills
- Robotic laser cutting programming.
- Experience with Yaskawa robot programming (preferred).
- Knowledge of robotic motion control and path optimization.
- Understanding of laser cutting technology and process parameters.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes.
- Fixture setup and validation.
- Robot calibration and TCP setting.
- Understanding of industrial automation systems.
- Basic PLC knowledge is an advantage.
Manufacturing Knowledge
- Lean Manufacturing.
- Kaizen.
- 5S.
- Root Cause Analysis.
- Poka-Yoke.
- OEE improvement.
- Cycle time reduction.
- Quality tools (5 Why, Fishbone, Pareto).
Preferred Experience
Candidates with experience on one or more of the following systems will be preferred:
- Yaskawa Robot Programming
- Laser cutting cells
- Robotic automation projects
- Sheet metal manufacturing
- Automotive or bicycle manufacturing
- Industrial robotic laser cutting applications
Educational Qualification
- Diploma or B.Tech/B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, Production Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Relevant robot programming certifications will be an added advantage.
