ROLE:
We are looking for a Head of LED Automation to own the design, programming, commissioning, and on-site delivery of every DMX, DALI, and dynamic-lighting project we execute. This is a hands-on technical leadership role — not a desk job. You will be the person architects, MEP consultants, and our own project teams call when a scene isn't right, a fixture isn't behaving, or a controller needs to be re-mapped at 11 pm before a client walkthrough.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Design & Specification
- Translate architect intent and lighting designer drawings into executable DMX/DALI control schematics, fixture schedules, and BOQs.
- Specify drivers, controllers, gateways, addressable fixtures, and topology (DMX universes, DALI groups, BACnet integration where applicable).
- Review and red-line consultant drawings; flag what won't work on site and propose corrections before procurement.
Programming & Commissioning
- Program scenes, schedules, and dynamic effects on industry-standard platforms (Madrix, ETC, Pharos, Lutron, Helvar, Casambi, KNX-DALI gateways, etc.).
- Calibrate against DESCOR fabric specifications (205 g/m², ~376 LEDs/m² for backlit, 0.5 mm thickness) to avoid hot-spotting, banding, and colour drift.
- Build the scene library, sign it off with the client before site, then deploy and refine on site.
Site Execution & Travel
- Travel to project sites — Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Indore, and beyond — for installation supervision, commissioning, and handover.
- Read the site: ambient light conditions, ceiling cavity depth, plenum constraints, fixture mounting realities, MEP coordination gaps, and contractor capability.
- Stay on site through punch-list closure. We do not leave until the scene the client approved is the scene the client gets.
Cross-Team Coordination
- Coordinate daily with the architect, lighting designer, MEP consultant, AV/IT integrator, civil contractor, and our own installation crew.
- Run pre-installation technical reviews with city sales/execution teams in Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Indore.
- Own all client-facing technical communication for lighting scope — drawings, RFIs, change orders, and sign-offs.
Product Development
- Contribute to Pongs India's proprietary product line — work alongside the Industrial Designer on LED rigid bars, channels, drivers, and upcoming product launches.
- Build internal SOPs for DMX/DALI design, commissioning, and handover so quality scales as we add cities and projects.
- Vendor-qualify new fixtures, drivers, and controllers; maintain an approved-products list with tested compatibility.
MUST-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS
- 5–10 years of hands-on experience in architectural lighting controls, DMX programming, or DALI/lighting automation — agency, integrator, or in-house at a luxury hospitality / retail brand.
- Demonstrated proficiency on at least two of: Madrix, ETC (Eos / ColorSource), Pharos, Lutron Quantum/Athena, Helvar, Casambi, KNX-DALI gateways, BACnet integration tools.
- Ability to read electrical SLDs, lighting layouts, and reflected ceiling plans, and to mark them up confidently in front of consultants.
- Comfort with low-voltage systems, addressable LED topologies, driver sizing, voltage drop calculation, and basic load balancing.
- Proven track record of commissioning at least 3 mid-to-large projects (>₹50 lakh lighting scope each) end-to-end on site.
- Willingness to travel 40–60% — including weekends and late-night commissioning windows when the site demands it.
- Strong English communication — written and spoken. You will sit across the table from architects, hotel owners, and German factory engineers.
GOOD TO HAVE
- Experience with stretch ceiling, backlit translucent, or printed fabric installations.
- Exposure to BACnet, KNX, or building-management-system integration of lighting.
- Understanding of colour science — CRI, R9, TM-30, MacAdam ellipses for binning.
- Prior work on a hospitality flagship, museum, experience centre, or branded retail rollout.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Dialux/Relux, or basic 3D visualization tools.
KNOCKOUT CRITERIA
Please do not apply if any of the following describe you:
- You have only specified or sold lighting controls — never commissioned them on site yourself.
- You cannot or will not travel to sites and stay there until commissioning is complete.
- You have not personally programmed a DMX or DALI scene library on real hardware in the last 12 months.
- You expect a 9-to-6 desk role with no field exposure.
