About Us:
PermitZIP is a U.S.-based MEP engineering firm headquartered in Richmond, Virginia. We produce permit-ready construction documents for a diverse range of building projects, including adaptive reuse, historic renovations, commercial, multifamily, mixed-use, industrial and storage, tenant fit-outs, and ground-up projects.
You can explore examples of our work on our Projects page. https://www.permitzip.com/projects
Our India MEP team is part of the engineering operation, not a drafting back office, working directly with U.S. Professional Engineers and clients.
We use modern software, AI, and automation to deliver projects efficiently, while our engineers remain responsible for their technical judgment.
The Role:
We are looking for Electrical Design Engineers with 0–5 years of experience to work on electrical design for U.S. building projects alongside senior engineers and U.S. Professional Engineers.
Recent graduates who want to grow their expertise in U.S. building electrical design are encouraged to apply.
We will teach you U.S. codes, standards, and our design practices. What we value most is curiosity, good judgment, clear communication, follow-through, and the habit of checking your work rather than simply assuming it is correct.
Software skills are helpful, but they are not our primary filter. We are looking for people who can think like engineers, take ownership of their work, and continue learning.
What You'll Do:
- Produce electrical construction documents for U.S.-based building projects, with review and guidance from senior engineers and U.S. Professional Engineers.
- Learn and perform core building electrical design, including load calculations, voltage drop, service and feeder sizing, available fault current calculations, grounding and bonding, one-line diagrams, lighting plans, power plans, and emergency power systems.
- Coordinate electrical designs with architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection disciplines.
- Review and check your work carefully, address QA/QC comments, and learn from engineering feedback.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams and participate in technical discussions and multidisciplinary coordination meetings.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (B.E./B.Tech or equivalent).
- 0–5 years of building electrical design, or a strong academic / internship record in building power, lighting, or similar. U.S. project experience is a plus, not mandatory.
- Strong written and spoken English. You will have to talk to U.S. engineers and clients.
- Willingness to learn U.S. codes (NEC and related) and company design practice.
- Revit or AutoCAD experience is helpful. It is not mandatory.
Work Setup:
- Full-time remote position.
- Night shift 3:30 PM - 1:30 AM IST, Monday-Friday, so you overlap the U.S. PE team (about 6 hours). Breaks can flex; we still expect a full workday.
- We provide the computer. Reliable home internet is required and should support video meetings and BIM workflows.
Why Join PermitZIP?
- Real U.S. small / mid-sized building work from day one, with PE review.
- Work directly with U.S. Professional Engineers - not in a siloed drafting role.
- Build expertise in electrical design and modern AI-assisted engineering workflows.
- Work alongside a talented engineering team in a collaborative, quality-focused environment.
How to apply

- Your resume (PDF).
- If available, two sample electrical sheets you personally worked on, preferably one one-line (or riser) diagram and one panel schedule. If you cannot share project sheets, including if you are a new graduate, provide a short 8–10 line description of an electrical design problem, calculation, or academic project you personally worked on. Briefly explain the problem, your approach, the key calculation or design decision, and how you checked your work.
