In Finance, Legal & Global Solutions, we enable Novo Nordisk to fulfil our purpose by safeguarding the business, providing corporate infrastructure, and driving value creation. We are a team of 2,300 colleagues primarily based at our headquarters in Denmark and our Global Business Services centres in India and Mexico.
Within Finance, Legal & Global Solutions sits Corporate Intellectual Property (CIP-GBS), where our team protects the intellectual property that underpins Novo Nordisk's ground-breaking therapies. Working closely with patent attorneys across our global organization, we ensure that the innovations driving change for patients are legally protected in markets around the world. Your role will be pivotal in maintaining the integrity of our patent portfolio while building the capabilities of our coordinator team.
The position
As a Trademark Attorney in the Corporate IP team within Global Business Services (GBS), Your key responsibilities will include:
- Manage and support trademark filing, prosecution, registration, renewal and maintenance activities across multiple jurisdictions
- Handle end-to-end in-house trademark prosecution and opposition matters before the Indian Trademark Registry
- Prepare, review and coordinate responses to examination reports and office actions in collaboration with global trademark attorneys
- Support oppositions, cancellations, invalidations, coexistence matters, consent arrangements and other contentious trademark proceedings across multiple jurisdictions
- Monitor prosecution developments, legal deadlines, renewals and other portfolio-related actions
- Coordinate with external counsel and trademark authorities regarding filings, formalities, evidence requirements and prosecution strategy
- Conduct and coordinate preliminary and comprehensive trademark clearance searches using commercial platforms and national trademark-office databases
- Review and analyse trademark search reports and identify potential registrability, availability and infringement risks
- Prepare clear search summaries, legal assessments and recommendations for re-view by global trademark attorneys and business stakeholders
- Support brand-name development projects, including candidate screening, legal review, project discussions and preparation of legal review reports
- Work closely with brand, marketing, regulatory and business teams regarding brand-name selection, filing strategies, launch timelines and trademark risks
- Support brand protection, counterfeit and unauthorized use matters in collaboration with relevant teams
- Preparation of evidence and documentation for contentious trademark matters
- Support and coordinate with relevant teams on domain names related matters
- Maintain accurate and complete records in the trademark portfolio-management system
- Ensure timely docketing of deadlines, correspondence, filings, prosecution developments and portfolio data
- Verify trademark data against official trademark-office records and resolve inconsistencies
- Support the administration, improvement and effective use of trademark-management systems
- Identify opportunities to simplify, standardise and improve trademark processes, templates and ways of working
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, playbooks, guidance notes, templates and internal knowledge resources
Qualifications
We are looking for a Trademark Attorney who thrives in a fast-paced, global environment and brings a combination of deep legal expertise and collaborative energy.
You'll bring with you:
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or equivalent legal qualification; additional certification or specialization in Intellectual Property Law or Trademark Practice is advantageous
- Registration to practise as a Trademark Agent in India
- 8+ years of relevant experience in trademark prosecution, opposition, enforcement, brand protection or handling global trademarks matters - candidates with broader and deeper experience may be considered for the Senior Trademark Attorney level
- Strong knowledge of trademark law and practice in India
- Working knowledge of trademark law and practice in jurisdictions such as the European Union, United Kingdom, Switzerland, United States, Canada, Brazil and China
- Experience conducting and analysing trademark clearance and availability search-es
- Experience working in an in-house intellectual property team, multinational organisation, law firm, shared-services centre or global capability centre
- Experience with trademark enforcement, domain-name disputes, online brand protection or counterfeit matters.
- Experience supporting trademark due diligence and intellectual property aspects of commercial transactions
- Experience using trademark search platforms such as Corsearch, SERION, TMview, the WIPO Global Brand Database and national trademark databases for multiple jurisdictions
- Experience using intellectual property management systems such as Anaqua, DI-AMS or equivalent tools
