Job Description – Room Attendant

Department: Housekeeping
Designation: Room Attendant
Industry: Hotel / Hospitality
Reporting To: Housekeeping Supervisor / Executive Housekeeper
Location: Hotel Property
Employment Type: Full-Time

Job Purpose

To ensure that guest rooms, bathrooms, and assigned areas are cleaned, maintained, and presented according to the hotel's cleanliness, hygiene, safety, and service standards, thereby providing guests with a comfortable and pleasant stay.

Key Responsibilities

1. Guest Room Cleaning

Clean and maintain assigned guest rooms as per hotel standards and daily room assignment.
Make beds, change bed linen, pillow covers, towels, and other room amenities as required.
Dust, vacuum, sweep and mop floors and clean all room surfaces.
Clean and sanitize bathrooms, toilets, showers, washbasins, mirrors and fixtures.
Replenish toiletries, drinking water, stationery and other guest supplies.
Ensure proper arrangement of furniture and room amenities.

2. Room Inspection & Maintenance

Check rooms for cleanliness, damages, missing items and maintenance issues.
Report any maintenance defects immediately to the Housekeeping Supervisor or Engineering Department.
Ensure all room equipment and amenities are functioning properly.
Maintain the required standards for vacant, occupied, checkout and VIP rooms.

3. Guest Service

Respond politely and professionally to guest requests related to housekeeping.
Provide additional towels, toiletries, pillows or other approved amenities when requested.
Maintain guest privacy and follow the hotel's standards regarding entering occupied rooms.
Report guest complaints or special requests to the Housekeeping Supervisor promptly.

4. Lost & Found

Follow the hotel's Lost & Found procedure strictly.
Immediately report and hand over any item found in guest rooms or public areas to the supervisor.
Never remove or retain any guest property.

5. Housekeeping Operations

Maintain cleanliness of housekeeping equipment, trolley and assigned work areas.
Keep housekeeping supplies properly arranged and stocked.
Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and according to hotel procedures.
Minimize wastage of linen, chemicals, toiletries and other hotel supplies.
Assist with periodic deep-cleaning activities when required.

6. Hygiene & Safety

Follow hotel hygiene, health and safety standards at all times.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment while handling cleaning chemicals.
Follow proper procedures for handling soiled linen and waste.
Immediately report any safety hazard, accident or unusual situation to the supervisor.

7. Coordination

Coordinate with Housekeeping Supervisors regarding room status and special cleaning requirements.
Coordinate with Front Office regarding room readiness and guest requests.
Inform the concerned department about maintenance or technical issues.
Assist other housekeeping team members during busy periods when required.

Qualification & Experience

Minimum 10th/12th standard preferred.
Previous experience in housekeeping or hotel operations is preferred.
Freshers may be considered based on hotel requirements.
Knowledge of basic housekeeping procedures will be an advantage.

Required Skills

Good understanding of cleaning and hygiene standards.
Attention to detail.
Good physical stamina and ability to perform repetitive work.
Basic communication and interpersonal skills.
Guest-oriented and service-minded attitude.
Ability to follow instructions and hotel SOPs.
Ability to work efficiently under time constraints.
Professional, disciplined and well-groomed appearance.

Guest room cleanliness and presentation.
Timely completion of assigned rooms.
Compliance with housekeeping SOPs.
Guest satisfaction and feedback.
Proper handling of linen, amenities and cleaning supplies.
Compliance with hygiene and safety standards.
Proper reporting of maintenance issues and Lost & Found items.
