EQUITY MIDDLE OFFICE OVERVIEW
Equity Middle Office team based in Powai is continuously and actively engaged in supporting Nomura's Equity business spread across EMEA, Americas, Japan and Asia Ex-Japan (AEJ) regions. Equity Operations supports the entire gamut of Equities product franchise offered by Nomura to its clients. The Equity Middle Office plays a pivotal role between Clients and Front Offices on one side and Nomura's in house teams and divisions ranging from Information Technology, Core Operations, Corporate Actions, Client Service Representatives, Transition Management Group, Client Margins, Data Management and Operations Control on the other. Equity MO team can be broadly split into 2 main business:
- Equity Cash & Derivatives - Equity Cash & Derivative MO team provides support and control to the various desks under this umbrella. The primary responsibilities of the team involve trade capture/verification, validation on T0, position & trade reconciliations and life cycle management activities. This team helps in managing risk for the traders by ensuring all bookings are timely and accurate.
- Equity Prime Services - Equity Prime Services team consist of 3 main functions - Synthetics Prime Brokerage (SPB), Cash Prime Brokerage (CPB) and Securities Borrow and Lending (SBL) / Equity Financing (EQF). Team provides support and control to the Prime and Delta One trading desks. Primary responsibilities involve setting of swap structure / T0 verification, risk management (intersystem reconciliations), cash fail management and client liaison for swap cash flow agreements.
PRIME FINANCING MIDDLE OFFICE – OVERVIEW AND JOB DESCRIPTION
Prime Financing Middle Office team is continuously and actively engaged in supporting Nomura's Equity business spread across EMEA, Americas, Japan and Asia Ex-Japan (AEJ) regions.
Prime Brokerage Middle Office and Equity Finance Middle Office plays a pivotal role between Clients and Front Offices on one side and Nomura's in house teams and divisions ranging from Information Technology, Core Operations, Corporate Actions, Client Service Representatives, Transition Management Group, Client Margins, Data Management and Operations Control on the other thereby Managing risk for the firm, by supporting various activities in the Trade Life Cycle Management of Prime Brokerage and Stock Lending & Borrowing / Repo Financing trades.
Daily Roles & responsibilities include:
1. Monitoring exception queues in Front Office / Middle Office systems to ensure smooth flow / successful instruction to the market.
2. Amendment /corrections to trade economics basis desk requests/approvals. Also, amending non-economic parameters such as SSIs, Settlement modes etc. liaising with Settlements.
3. Book full/partial wind ups on o/s trades basis Client / Counterparty requests post evaluation basis pre-defined criteria shared by business.
4. Monitoring Fails escalating high value same day / ageing fails.
5. Agreeing / processing T0 exposures with the counterparty’s basis Trade settlements, daily MTM. Reporting/escalating unagreed exposures with reasons to senior management and Credit Risk.
6. Perform daily position and trade reconciliations such as contract compare, using Equilend and Pirum
7. Effective Query Management via group mailboxes, calls and video conferencing with high sensitivity to Client Confidentiality aspect
8. Update daily / weekly MIS / KRIs for senior management reporting with high quality and simplicity
9. Proactively support managers and be flexible to the cross-training initiatives and backfilling process as and when required by the seniors in the team
10. Proactively contribute by assisting seniors to deliver on firm critical projects by participating in the planning stage and UAT (User acceptance testing)
11. Proactively participate in mandatory (Agent migration) / voluntary projects (Digitalization) carried out by the team and firm
12. Being abreast on the new technology and digital tools used in this industry and proactively contribute by sharing ideas to make mundane tasks efficient by application of new age digital tools
13. Ensure proactive/timely attendance of the training sessions for self-development and skill upgradation.
