Junior Accountant – Job Description

Job Summary

We are looking for a detail-oriented, analytical, and motivated Junior Accountant to join our finance and accounting team. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting accounting operations, preparing financial reports, and ensuring timely completion of accounting activities.

This role is ideal for someone who has a strong foundation in accounting principles, excellent attention to detail, and a desire to develop their career in a fast-paced professional environment. You will work closely with senior accountants and cross-functional teams to ensure financial accuracy, compliance, and efficient financial processes.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and journal entries.

Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, management reports, and financial analysis.

Perform regular bank, credit card, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger reconciliations and investigate discrepancies promptly.

Process and verify invoices, payments, receipts, expense reports, and other financial transactions in accordance with company policies.

Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities, including accruals, adjustments, reconciliations, and account reviews.

Assist with tax compliance, statutory filings, audits, and preparation of supporting schedules and documentation.

Monitor outstanding receivables and payables and assist in maintaining healthy cash flow and working capital.

Assist with budget monitoring, expense tracking, variance analysis, and financial forecasting.

Review financial transactions for accuracy, completeness, appropriate authorization, and compliance with accounting policies.

Maintain well-organized and audit-ready financial documentation, records, and supporting schedules.

Identify accounting discrepancies, unusual transactions, and process gaps, and work with relevant teams to resolve them efficiently.

Support senior accountants and management with financial analysis, ad-hoc reports, and accounting projects.

Contribute to improving accounting processes, internal controls, reporting accuracy, and overall efficiency.

Ensure all accounting activities are performed in accordance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, internal controls, and company procedures.

Maintain confidentiality and integrity of sensitive financial and business information.

Key Skills & Competencies

Strong understanding of accounting principles and bookkeeping practices.

Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Good knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and general ledger accounting.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP software.

Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.

Ability to identify discrepancies and take initiative to resolve issues.

Good written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with senior accountants and other departments.

Strong sense of ownership, accountability, confidentiality, and professional integrity.

Willingness to learn, adapt, and take on increasing responsibility.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.

0–2 years of relevant accounting experience; fresh graduates with strong accounting fundamentals may also be considered.
