Alpha Charitable Trust is developing a Hospice to complement its existing community Palliative Care Link Centers.
The Hospice will comprise:
- a 20 bed HDU providing intensive Palliative Care as an alternative to ICU/hospital
- a 90 bed 'Aratrika' providing Palliative physiotherapy-led rehabilitation for spinal injuries/tetraplegia
- a 28 bed 'Ashis' providing residential care for frail elderly persons unable to self-care
- a Dialysis Service for > 300 patients with renal failure
- a Palliative Emergency Response Unit (PERU) providing assessment, triage, signposting, and treatment
- an Institute of Palliative Sciences (IPS)
The building is currently under construction. The HDU is set to open by September 2026 and the other components by October 2026, with an opening and dedication event scheduled for 10 th October 2026. Clinical staffing establishments will be in the region of 6 whole-time equivalent (WTE) medics, 40 nurses (qualified and unqualified), 30 physiotherapists, 30 physiotherapy assistants, 35 dialysis technicians, plus an as-yet undetermined number of social workers, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and clinical psychologists.
We are looking for an experienced Hospital Administrator/Service Director (SD) for theHospice, which is situated in Edamuttam, near Thrissur, Kerala.
Candidates should have proven track record in Hospital Administration, preferably in the Palliative Hospice and End-of-life care sector, and be able to deliver a Hospice offering High Dependency Unit and other complex functions within a tight time frame.
This is a full-time position, working mainly on-site, 6 days per week.
The SD will work alongside a Clinical Leadership Team (CLT) to be led by a Clinical Director (CD) from U.K and an Executive Assistant (EA) based at the Hospice. The SD will ensure the delivery of services as determined by the CLT and manage the day-to-day administrative functions of the Hospice.
Duties will include:
Developing, with the CD and EA a time-lined project plan for the opening of 20 single rooms each with a bystander bed for High Dependency End-of-Life care on or by 29/8/26 and the other components on or by 10/10/26
Recruitment of staff and clinicians
Redeployment/repurposing of existing staff to ensure the new Hospice is fit for purpose
Ensuring clinical strategy is communicating with estates strategy
Procurement and purchasing (the SD may need to recruit a Purchasing Manager)
Storage and supplies management (the SD may need to recruit a Stores Manager)
Financial flows and budget preparation and management
Contracts/Human resource management
Confirming the renewal of mandatory licenses of the Hospice
Accountability and legal conformity for Essential Narcotic Drugs
Accounts of Alpha Hospice, day to day preparation of vouchers and keeping of Books of accounts in the Tally software.
Custody of assets belonging to Alpha Hospice
Monitoring and analyzing accounting data and produce monthly and yearly financial reports
Monthly MIS reports for Alpha Hospice
Keeping Impress Petty cash for the petty expenses at site.
Establishing and enforcing proper internal control system for purchases, payments and expenses.
Coordinating with Auditors and doing all correspondence with the Audit office with respect to Alpha Hospice
Coordinating with Banks and communicating with respect to all matters required to maintain all bank accounts
Reconciliation of all bank account statement with books of accounts
Periodic submission of reports to statutory bodies such as income tax Dept, Provident fund, ESI etc
Responsibility for timely payments to various suppliers after taking necessary approval
Checking salary statements in accordance with the appointment orders and joining report, leave data, assessments and promotions
Preparing cheque and bank transfer orders and getting signatures from concerned signatories
Ensuring periodic payments for vehicle insurance, professional tax, building tax etc
Supervising and guiding accounts assistants to do their work efficiently whenever they are appointed
Maintaining cordial relationships with Alpha Hospice Committee office bearers
Maintaining cordial relationships with the Alpha Head Office staff and all other Alpha units
Maintaining and updating latest version of software for account keeping
Keeping accounts of Directors & Sponsors separately their contribution and their receivables accurately
Calculating variance between the Budget and Actual cost of construction of Hospice at each stage
Keeping track of wastage of materials due to wrong items purchased or any other reason.
The post-holder must have the capacity to work in a non-partisan and apolitical fashion and will need to establish integrated work programmes to undertake the mix of activities necessary to deliver the complex functions of the Hospice within a finite time period.
The post-holder must be able to speak Malayalam and English fluently. Hindi would be an advantage.
