JOB DESCRIPTION FOR INSTRUCTOR (SWIMMING)

(Marine Engineering)

named as C.V. Raman College of Engineering (CVRCE). With 25 Centres of Excellence set up in

collaboration with industry leaders across the board, the university today has over 20 start-ups working

 CIP GRADATION A-2 institute by DG approved R.O. LLOYDS for B.Tech Marine

Engineering, 1-year GME, 16 STCW courses, 6 Months GP Rating Course and 6 Months

Notable Awards and Honours:

 In the field of research, the University received grants over 5 crores in 2022.

 Ms. Manisha Padhi, alumni of CGU have been appointed as the ADC to The Hon’ble Governor

of Mizoram in 2023 and became the first ever female to hold the position.

 Ms. Swagatika Mohanty, Civil Engineering (2013-17), has bagged the 15th rank in Odisha Civil

Services Exam in 2023 and is now a functional, respectable, responsible OAS.

 Safia Aktar, Anshu Kumari, and Radhika Rani Panda won the 1st prize at “10-Hour Women

Hackathon” organised by Trithon Triplets 2k23.

 Abhishek Kumar, B.Tech (ECE) awarded the Visweswaraya Prativa Puraskar at Odisha

Technological Conclave, 2023.

 Mr. Praveen Giri won the Silver Medal in the area of Water Technology at World Skills,

Stuttgart, Germany, 2022.

 Mr. Subrat Patel won Medallion of Excellence in the area of Restaurant Services at World

Skills, Stuttgart, Germany, 2022.

 9 students represented India in World skills 2022 in 7 various Skills.

 CGU won Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2022 in Software Edition.’

 Our cadets obtained Gold medal in B.Tech Marine exam under IMU..

 Our cadets have qualified Ministry of Shipping approved MEO Class IV, Class II, Class I(Chief

Engineer) examination for the industry.

Where You Come In?

The Instructor (Swimmer) within the Faculty of Marine is responsible for conducting practical training

sessions, managing and maintaining the seamanship laboratory, organizing safety drills, and ensuring

the upkeep of essential safety and seamanship equipment for various maritime courses including

B. Tech, G.P. Rating, and STCW programs.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not restricted to the following:

1. Conduct Practical Sessions: Plan and execute practical training sessions in seamanship for

students enrolled in B. Tech (Marine Engineering/Nautical Science), G.P. Rating, and various

STCW courses.

2. Manage and Maintain Seamanship Lab: Oversee the day-to-day operations, cleanliness, and

maintenance of the seamanship laboratory, ensuring all equipment is in good working order and

readily available for practical training.

3. Organize and Conduct Drills: Plan, organize, and conduct mandatory drills including

Personal Survival Techniques (PST), Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (PSCRB),

Security Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties (STSDSD) as per STCW

regulations.

4. Maintain Equipment Records: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all laboratory

equipment related to Seamanship and Life-Saving Appliances (LSA), including inventory,

maintenance schedules, and repair logs.

5. Supervise Equipment Maintenance: Oversee and ensure the proper maintenance of Life

Buoys (L.B.), Life Rafts (L.R.), all other LSA equipment,and seamanship laboratory

equipment, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.

6. Coordinate and Assist: Coordinate effectively with other departments within the University

and provide assistance with miscellaneous office and academic tasks, including Physical

Training (PT) and Parade duties as required.

7. Oversee and Conduct Examinations: Assist faculty members in the preparation and conduct

of practical examinations for various courses, ensuring fair and accurate assessment of students'

skills.

What Are We Looking For?

 At least 5 years of relevant experience.

 Experience in other MTI as Marine instructor.

 Valid Lifeguard/Life Saving Certification from an accredited body & VICT (Vertical

Integration Course for Trainers).
