Position Overview
We are hiring a DevOps / Cloud Engineer for a time-bound, private blockchain MVP. You will provision and operate the cloud infrastructure, support deployment of a Hyperledger Fabric network and application services (API and web frontend), and put in place security, monitoring, logging, and backup for a production-like environment.
This is a contract / project-based role with phased delivery. Project domain, client, and detailed architecture will be shared after NDA.
Role Summary
You will own infrastructure and deployment for a multi-service platform: blockchain nodes, REST API, and web client. Blockchain and application engineers build the software; you make it runnable, secure, observable, and repeatable in the cloud.
This is not a full-time role for the entire project for most teams — expect heavy involvement at kickoff and release, with lighter support during development.
Key ResponsibilitiesInfrastructure & Environment Setup (Early Phase)
- Provision cloud resources on AWS or Azure (VMs, networking, security groups, DNS as needed)
- Support hosting for Hyperledger Fabric components (peers, orderer, CA — topology defined under NDA)
- Define environments: dev / staging / production-like (as agreed in SOW)
- Configure TLS, firewall rules, and network policies
- Set up secrets management (e.g. AWS Secrets Manager, Azure Key Vault) — no credentials in repos
- Document network topology, access model, and environment variables
Application Deployment
- Containerize or deploy REST API and web frontend (Docker; Kubernetes optional for MVP)
- Configure load balancer / API gateway and static hosting or container hosting for frontend
- Implement CI/CD pipelines for build, test, and deploy (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or equivalent)
- Coordinate with backend and frontend engineers on build artifacts, health checks, and config
- Support Infrastructure as Code where practical (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM, or Bicep)
Operations, Security & Handover (Late Phase)
- Configure monitoring and alerting (CPU, memory, disk, API latency, service health)
- Set up centralized logging with appropriate retention and access controls
- Define backup and recovery approach for critical state (ledger/peers per Fabric best practices)
- Run deployment to staging/production-like environment with the wider team
- Produce runbooks: start/stop, deploy, rollback, certificate rotation, incident escalation
- Participate in security checklist review (TLS everywhere, secrets, access, logging)
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years DevOps, SRE, or cloud infrastructure experience
- Hands-on AWS or Azure (state primary cloud in your application)
- Strong Linux administration and networking fundamentals
- Docker in production; container deployment patterns
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments
- Secrets management, TLS/SSL, and security group / firewall configuration
- Monitoring and logging (CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Prometheus/Grafana, ELK, or similar)
- Infrastructure as Code experience (at least one of Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM)
- Clear documentation habits and English communication for a remote team
- Willingness to sign NDA before receiving full project details
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience deploying or supporting Hyperledger Fabric (peers, orderer, CA, channels) on cloud or VMs
- Kubernetes (EKS, AKS) — not required for MVP but valued
- Blockchain or permissioned network projects (details under NDA)
- Nginx, reverse proxies, API gateways
- Backup/DR planning (RTO/RPO documentation)
- Security reviews for cloud deployments (least privilege IAM, no public secrets)
- Cost awareness and right-sizing for MVP environments

What You Will Deliver
By the end of the engagement:
- Provisioned cloud environment(s) for Fabric and application tiers
- Deployed API and frontend in staging/production-like environment
- CI/CD pipelines for repeatable builds and deploys
- Secrets, TLS, and network security configured per project requirements
- Monitoring, logging, and basic alerting in place
- Backup/recovery notes for critical components
- Operations runbooks and handover documentation for the client/ops team
Acceptance criteria and milestones are defined in the statement of work.
What We Are Looking For
- Engineer who has deployed real systems to cloud, not only managed local Docker
- Comfortable supporting Fabric or similar stateful services even if a specialist owns chaincode
- Pragmatic about MVP: stable and secure first; full HA can be Phase 2
- Strong documentation — ops must survive after contract ends
- Collaborative with developers on env vars, health endpoints, and release process
