Job Summary
The Masters in Emergency Medicine Doctor is responsible for providing immediate assessment, diagnosis, stabilization, and treatment for patients presenting with medical, surgical, traumatic, and life-threatening emergencies. The MEM doctor ensures rapid clinical decision-making, emergency interventions, patient stabilization, and coordination with specialty departments for further management.
Roles & Responsibilities1. Emergency Patient Management
- Attend all emergency and trauma patients immediately upon arrival.
- Perform rapid clinical assessment and triage.
- Diagnose and initiate emergency treatment protocols.
- Stabilize critically ill and injured patients.
- Handle medico-legal and accident cases as per hospital policy.
- Provide emergency resuscitation and life-saving procedures.
2. Critical Care & Resuscitation
- Manage cardiac arrest and perform CPR/ACLS protocols.
- Handle airway management including intubation and ventilation support.
- Manage shock, poisoning, stroke, seizures, and trauma emergencies.
- Monitor critically ill patients continuously.
- Assist in ICU transfers and critical patient management.
3. Clinical Procedures
- Perform emergency procedures such as:
- Suturing and wound management
- Central venous access
- Arterial blood gas collection
- Catheterization
- Nebulization and oxygen therapy
- Splinting and fracture immobilization
- Emergency bedside procedures
4. Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with consultants and specialty departments.
- Inform senior consultants regarding critical cases promptly.
- Communicate patient condition clearly with relatives and attendants.
- Coordinate ambulance and referral services when required.
- Work closely with nursing staff and technicians.
5. Documentation & Medico-Legal Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate emergency case records.
- Prepare emergency notes, treatment sheets, and discharge summaries.
- Ensure proper documentation of medico-legal cases (MLC).
- Record death summaries and emergency reports when necessary.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
6. Infection Control & Safety
- Follow hospital infection control protocols.
- Maintain emergency equipment readiness.
- Ensure crash cart and emergency drugs availability.
- Adhere to biomedical waste management guidelines.
- Follow patient safety and quality standards.
7. Academic & Training Responsibilities
- Participate in CMEs, emergency drills, and training programs.
- Train junior doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff.
- Update clinical knowledge as per latest emergency medicine guidelines.
- Participate in hospital quality improvement initiatives.
Key Duties During Shift
- Attend emergency OP and casualty patients.
- Monitor admitted emergency patients.
- Respond to Code Blue and emergency calls.
- Assist during mass casualty or disaster situations.
- Ensure proper handover during shift changes.

Qualification
- MBBS with Masters in Emergency Medicine (MEM) / equivalent qualification.
- Valid Medical Council Registration.
