YOUR ROLE
As a senior engineering manager, you’ll oversee a highly skilled team developing operating system technologies for the Wind River’s next generation real-time embedded operating system.
In your daily job you will:
- Lead and guide a development team in design, implementation, and validation of embedded architecture and Board Support Package (BSP) development for an RTOS.
- Take initiative to improve features and processes.
- Contribute ideas for product improvements and iterations.
- Collaborate effectively with global software engineering teams.
- Manage team priorities and assignments.
- Collaborate with architects/senior developers and product managers to define, estimate, and plan feature development.
- Work with Agile Scrum Teams and lead the team to design, implement, and refine feature development, testing, and processes.
- Oversee project logistics and resource allocation.
- Strives to improve efficiency and sustainability of processes and product designs
- Secure resources are needed for teams to excel, including help to identify hardware needs, tools needs, etc.
- Help create and oversee project budgets and engage in cost management strategies.
- Communicate and engage with the field and customers on product and technology information.
- Collaborate with other team leaders and departments.
- Potentially lead project initiatives within engineering.
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
Key skills and competencies for succeeding in this role are:
- BTech / MTech degree (Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical degree).
- Minimum 12+ years' experience in developing low level embedded OS capabilities, such as device driver development, board support packages, and board bring up.
- Experience in developing software stacks written preferably in C, C++ and experience working with BSP, Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) and Bootloader development.
- Good understanding and experience of Embedded systems and related HW, SW components (Processor, Memory, Peripherals, OS, Device Drivers, etc.).
- Working knowledge of software and drivers for peripherals and controllers and services for complex SOC Systems) for ARM/Intel/PowerPC based.
- Strong working experience in HW interface for ARM 64-bit OR Intel Architecture processors with assembly programming and with strong debugging and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong understanding of the underlying Architecture: CPU, MMU, Cache, Interrupts, DMA, ADC/DAC, EEPROM, PWM, Watchdog Timers, and other embedded peripherals.
- Experience in programming PIC, GIC, UART, Timer, Simple Bus, Memory Controller, etc.
- Knowledge and experience of any RTOS (QNX, VxWorks, FreeRTOS, Linux, etc.) is a plus.
- Strong technical leadership, team building, and mentoring skills
- Good personnel and project management skills
- Good knowledge and understanding of embedded software technology and processes
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Strategic thinker, with attention to detail
- Flexible, including the ability to pivot and try new approaches when faced with challenges
- Organizational, planning, and documentation skills
- Proficiency using presentation software to explain complex information to non-technical management personnel and other stakeholders
- Ability to work on multiple projects in various stages simultaneously
- Past use of Agile/Scrum or similar collaborative tools a plus
- Experience in managing a team of 10 or more
- Experience in leading technical projects
