The Team Lead – SEO & Web Development is responsible for driving both organic search strategies and overseeing the web development initiatives related to SEO. This hybrid role involves leading a team of SEO specialists and web developers to ensure the optimization of websites and web applications for search engines while maintaining the overall user experience. You will manage and lead a cross-functional team in executing strategies that increase organic traffic, improve rankings, and optimize site performance across multiple digital properties.

Key Responsibilities

SEO Strategy & Execution: Develop and implement effective SEO strategies for organic traffic growth, improved keyword rankings, and enhanced user experience (UX).
Web Development Oversight: Lead web development projects ensuring they adhere to SEO best practices and align with overall digital marketing goals. Work closely with developers to optimize websites for speed, mobile responsiveness, and crawlability.
Team Leadership & Mentoring: Manage and mentor a team of SEO specialists, web developers, and designers, ensuring the team is working efficiently and staying updated on the latest SEO and web development trends.
On-Page SEO Optimization: Oversee the optimization of meta tags, headers, content, URL structure, and internal linking to ensure on-page SEO best practices are being met across all sites.
Technical SEO & Site Audits: Conduct technical SEO audits, monitor site performance, and work with development teams to implement solutions for issues like site speed, mobile optimization, redirects, and site architecture.
Site Architecture & Navigation: Collaborate with web developers to design, implement, and maintain an intuitive site structure, ensuring both users and search engines can easily navigate the site.
Performance Tracking & Reporting: Utilize SEO and web analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, SEMrush, Ahrefs, Lighthouse) to track site performance, organic traffic, and conversion metrics. Provide insights and reports to stakeholders.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with content creators, UX designers, and marketing teams to ensure SEO strategies are implemented throughout the web development process and ongoing content production.
Web Development Best Practices: Ensure all web development tasks follow best practices for performance optimization, security, and usability, aligning with SEO strategies.
Content & Code Optimization: Lead initiatives for optimizing both content and code for search engines, ensuring that websites are optimized for key search terms and user experience.
Link Building Strategy: Develop and oversee the execution of a link-building strategy, working with content and PR teams to acquire high-quality backlinks.
Responsive Design & Mobile Optimization: Ensure that websites are fully responsive and optimized for mobile, following the latest mobile-first indexing guidelines by search engines.
Technical SEO Education: Educate team members, including developers and designers, on SEO best practices and how web development impacts search rankings.

Skills & Qualifications

Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in SEO with a solid understanding of web development, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and site structure.
At least 2+ years in a team lead role, managing a diverse team of SEO specialists, web developers, and designers.
Expertise in SEO tools (Google Analytics, SEMrush, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, etc.) for analysis and optimization.
Strong understanding of technical SEO, including site architecture, mobile-first design, and site performance optimization.
Proficiency in modern web development technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, PHP, etc.) and frameworks.
Hands-on experience with content management systems (CMS) like WordPress, Shopify, or custom platforms.
Ability to develop and execute SEO strategies, including keyword research, content optimization, and site audits.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams (marketing, design, development, etc.).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Web Development, Marketing, or a related field (preferred).

Preferred Skills

Experience with UX/UI principles and how they relate to SEO and web development.
Familiarity with A/B testing, conversion rate optimization (CRO), and how they intersect with SEO.
Familiarity with cloud hosting solutions and CDN integrations for site optimization.
Knowledge of advanced JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue.js, Angular) and how they impact SEO.
Experience with e-commerce platforms and SEO for online stores.
Understanding of web accessibility (WCAG) standards and how they intersect with SEO.

Working Conditions

Full-time position with standard office hours (flexible/remote work options available).
May require occasional evening/weekend work to meet project deadlines or team needs.
