Job Title
Senior Database Administrator (PostgreSQL / AWS RDS)
Shift timings : – 2 pm to 11 pm IST
Contract duration – Till Feb 2027 (however, we can sign the work order for 6 months, and extend it as needed)
Number of interview rounds involved – Typically 2
NOTE : Having said that, resources assigned to the shift are expected to maintain flexibility and be available to support requests during non-standard hours, including post-midnight coverage, based on client requirements, go-lives, or other critical business activities.
Standard hours would be 2 to 11 PM (Mon to Fri), anything critical P1 would be covered in above statement.
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to
manage, monitor, optimize, and evolve our PostgreSQL database environments. This
role is responsible for supporting highload onpremises PostgreSQL systems as well
as AWS RDS PostgreSQL deployments.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in query performance tuning, database
version upgrades, and cloud database operations, with a proven ability to plan, test,
and execute PostgreSQL upgrades and migrations while ensuring application
compatibility, data integrity, and system stability.
Key Responsibilities
PostgreSQL Administration (OnPremise & Cloud)
Monitor, analyze, and tune heavy and longrunning SQL queries across
PostgreSQL environments
Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks using PostgreSQL statistics, logs,
and system metrics
Optimize database performance through:
o Index design and optimization
o Query analysis and rewriting
o PostgreSQL configuration tuning (memory, vacuum, autovacuum,
checkpoints)
o Detect and propose data archival mechanism for unused data
Ensure database availability, reliability, and data integrity
Manage backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies
Database Version Upgrades & Compatibility Testing
Lead and execute PostgreSQL database version upgrades in onpremises and
AWS RDS environments
Perform preupgrade assessments to identify:
o Deprecated features and breaking changes
o Extension, stored procedure, and function compatibility issues
o Query behavior and performance changes between versions
Design and execute comprehensive upgrade testing plans to ensure:
o Stored procedures, functions, triggers, and views remain compatible
o Existing SQL queries execute correctly and efficiently
o Applications function as expected on the upgraded database version
Validate data integrity, performance, and stability postupgrade
AWS RDS PostgreSQL & Cloud Operations
Design, provision, and manage AWS RDS PostgreSQL instances
Spin up and configure RDS environments following best practices for:
o Security and access control
o Performance tuning and scalability
o High availability, backups, and snapshots
Monitor RDS performance using AWS and PostgreSQL monitoring tools
Partner with DevOps and infrastructure teams on cloud database architecture
Database Migration & Modernization
Lead and support database migrations between onpremises PostgreSQL and
AWS RDS
Plan and execute migrations with minimal downtime and risk
Perform data validation and performance testing after migration
Provide strategic recommendations for PostgreSQL modernization, architecture
improvements, and version adoption
DevOps & Automation
Apply DevOps principles to database operations
Automate database provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance
Support CI/CD pipelines involving database schema and data changes
Use scripting and infrastructureascode approaches to improve operational
efficiency
Required Qualifications
Minimum 7 years of experience as a Database Administrator, with strong focus
on PostgreSQL
Deep handson knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, performance tuning, and
query optimization
Proven experience planning and executing PostgreSQL version upgrades,
including:
o Compatibility testing of stored procedures, functions, and SQL queries
o Managing risks, rollback plans, and production cutovers
Strong experience managing AWS RDS PostgreSQL environments
Solid understanding of Linux/Unix operating systems
Experience working with DevOps tools, automation, and modern infrastructure
practices
Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problemsolving skills
Experience supporting largescale or hightraffic PostgreSQL environments
Strong communication and technical documentation skills
Ability to work independently and take ownership of complex database platforms
Comfortable collaborating with application, DevOps, and infrastructure teams
Proactive, improvementdriven mindset focused on performance, stability, and
scalability
Familiarity with PostgreSQL monitoring and diagnostic tools
Knowledge of highavailability, replication, and failover strategies
Experience with AWS services such as VPC, IAM, EC2, and S3
Scripting skills (Bash, Python, or similar)
Pay: ₹100,000.00 - ₹120,000.00 per month
