JOB DESCRIPTION
Azure Data Engineer
Responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable and efficient cloud-based data platform using Microsoft Azure Technologies. Should have hands-on experience with Azure data services and a strong background in data engineering.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design and implement data solutions on Azure, including data ingestion, transformation, storage, and serving across structured and unstructured data sources.
2. Develop and manage ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF), including CDC (Change Data Capture), batch, micro-batch, and file extract patterns.
3. Build and maintain data lakes, data warehouses, and databases using Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS Gen2), Azure SQL Database, PostgreSQL, and Azure Databricks, following a medallion architecture (Staging Raw Ontology Consumption layers).
4. Implement data transformation workflows using Azure Databricks (PySpark/Spark SQL) and DBT for enrichment, unification, and business rule application.
5. Build and manage real-time/streaming data pipelines using Azure Event Hubs and Azure Stream Analytics for low-latency event processing scenarios.
6. Optimize and tune data pipelines for performance and cost-efficiency, including compute management, storage tiering, and partitioning strategies.
7. Integrate data from diverse sources such as APIs, on-premises databases, SaaS platforms, file feeds (CSV, Parquet, Excel), and streaming sources into the Azure environment.
8. Support the Data Exchange Hub and API serving layer — work with Azure Functions, API Management, to expose curated data via APIs for internal apps, partners, and reverse ETL use cases.
9. Set up monitoring, alerting, and data observability using Azure Monitor and tools for data profiling, data quality, data lineage, and cataloguing.
10. Manage deployments using Azure DevOps and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
11. Support BI and analytics consumption by preparing data marts and FnD layers for Power BI dashboards.
12. Troubleshoot data-related issues and ensure timely resolution through root cause analysis.
13. Maintain technical documentation for data solutions, architecture, data models, and workflows.
Required Skills
14. 3+ years of experience in developing cloud data solutions.
15. Proven experience in Azure data services.
16. Experience with ADLS Gen2, Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, NoSQL DB, Delta Lake.
17. ETL/ELT using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, DBT.
18. Strong skills in SQL, Python, PySpark.
19. Azure DevOps for CI/CD.
20. Knowledge of streaming architecture (Event Hubs, Stream Analytics).
21. Understanding data modelling (medallion, star schema, data vault).
22. Experience with data security (Key Vault, RBAC).
23. Familiarity with containerization (AKS, Container Registry).
24. Knowledge of API development using Azure Functions and API Management.
25. Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
