About Wondrfly
Wondrfly helps parents discover classes, camps, lessons, and activities for their children.
We're an AI-native startup building in a rapidly evolving market. We believe modern engineering teams can operate dramatically faster through AI-assisted development, automation, and strong technical ownership.
We're looking for an Engineering Lead who can help us build and ship great software quickly while raising the effectiveness of the entire engineering organization.
This is not a traditional engineering management role. This is a player-coach role for someone who enjoys building software, solving hard technical problems, mentoring engineers, and driving execution.
You will work closely with our Principal Architect, who owns long-term architecture and technical strategy, while you focus on turning plans into shipped product.
Note: We’re a young startup. If your priority is to make money now, then this role might not be for you. However, if you’re looking for something more meaningful:
- · If you want to be part of a superstar team that’s not just talented, but also humble and kind,
- · If you're excited to build a game-changing product from the ground up,
- · If you're eager to learn, grow, and take on new challenges,
- · If you thrive on solving tough problems and working hard,
- · If you're driven by the idea of making a real impact in the world,
- · You want to grow (including financially) as we grow,
Then please keep reading!
The Role
Your primary responsibility is simple: Help the team build and ship great software faster.
You will contribute directly to engineering work while also helping improve execution, accountability, and engineering effectiveness.
This role combines:
- Hands-on software engineering
- Technical leadership
- Engineering execution
- Team mentorship
- AI-native development practices
You should expect to spend a meaningful portion of your time writing code, reviewing code, solving technical problems, and helping engineers deliver high-quality work.
What You'll Do
Your job is simple: Help the engineering team build great software faster.
This includes:
- · Writing production code
- · Reviewing pull requests
- · Debugging complex issues
- · Pairing with engineers
- · Improving system reliability and performance
- · Helping deliver critical features
This is not a management-only role.
You'll work closely with our Principal Architect, who owns technical architecture and long-term technical direction. Your focus is making sure work gets completed efficiently, blockers are removed quickly, and the team stays aligned and productive.
Your Responsibilities
Lead Technical Execution
You will:
- · Know what everyone is working on
- · Identify and remove blockers quickly
- · Ensure commitments are met
- · Improve delivery predictability
- · Make sure important work keeps moving forward
If something is stuck, delayed, or unclear, you'll help drive it to resolution.
Improve Team Effectiveness
You'll continuously look for ways to improve how we work.
Examples:
- · Improving development workflows
- · Simplifying processes
- · Reducing unnecessary coordination overhead
- · Improving engineering visibility
- · Streamlining release processes
- · Increasing engineering velocity
Your goal is to maximize time spent building valuable software
Mentor and Support Engineers
You will help engineers improve through
- · Technical coaching
- · Code reviews
- · Design reviews
- · Constructive feedback
- · Pair programming
- · Sharing engineering best practices
Drive AI-Native Engineering
We expect AI to be a core part of modern software development. You will help the team adopt and improve:
- AI-assisted coding
- Agent-based workflows
- AI-assisted testing
- AI-assisted debugging
- Engineering automation
- Productivity tooling
Drive Accountability
You'll help create a culture where:
- Commitments matter
- Risks are surfaced early
- Blockers are escalated quickly
- Ownership is expected
- Follow-through is non-negotiable
You don't let important work quietly drift.
Create Visibility
The CEO should never have to wonder:
- What's being worked on?
- What's blocked?
- What's shipping next?
- What risks should we know about?
You help create that visibility.
What you do not own
You are not the primary architecture owner. You are not responsible for designing the long-term technical architecture of the platform. You are expected to contribute heavily to technical discussions and architectural reviews, but your primary focus is execution, engineering effectiveness, and delivering product.
What Success Looks Like
After 3 months
- · You are contributing production code
- · Engineers view you as a trusted technical leader
- · Blockers are resolved quickly
- · Delivery becomes more predictable
- · AI-assisted development practices are gaining adoption
After 12 Months:
- The team ships faster
- Product quality improves
- AI tools are part of everyday development
- Engineers are more productive
- The organization operates like a much larger team
What We're Looking For
Strong Technical Depth
You should be comfortable:
- Reading and reviewing production code
- Designing software systems
- Evaluating technical tradeoffs
- Participating in architecture discussions
- Debugging complex problems
- Coaching engineers on implementation decisions
We are looking for a technical leader first and a manager second.
Ownership
You don't wait for someone else to solve problems. If something needs attention, you step in and help move it forward.
Urgency
You don't let important work sit. You follow up. You communicate. You drive things to completion.
Strong Communication
You keep people informed. You raise concerns early. You create clarity rather than confusion.
Accountability
When you commit to something, you follow through. If something changes, you communicate early.
Low Ego
You care more about helping the team succeed than being right. You work well with strong personalities and strong technical contributors.
Technical Qualifications
We are looking for a technical leader who understands modern software development and can effectively partner with senior engineers and architects.
You should be comfortable:
- Backend system development
· API design and integrations
· Cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred)
