Responsibilities
· Backlog management: Own and maintain the product backlog for your product area. Write clear, comprehensive user stories with well-defined acceptance criteria, focusing on features that enhance the travel user experience and leverage our AI capabilities.
· Sprint planning & Agile process: Lead backlog grooming and prioritization sessions. Work with the Scrum Master and engineering teams to plan sprints, ensuring that the highest-value features are developed in the proper sequence. Adjust priorities based on feedback and changing needs, keeping the team focused and productive.
· Requirement gathering: Collaborate with the Product Manager and stakeholders (sales, customer success, travel industry partners) to gather requirements and translate high-level ideas into detailed product specifications. Ensure that business goals, user needs, and technical feasibility are all balanced in planning.
· Product vision alignment: Develop a deep understanding of Rhia’s product vision and strategy. Communicate the context and purpose behind features to the development team so they understand how their work contributes to larger company objectives. Emphasize how features will improve the travel journey for users or optimize operations for clients.
· Quality and acceptance: Define acceptance criteria for each story and personally validate that delivered features meet those criteria. Conduct user acceptance testing for completed features, working with QA to ensure that the product increments are of high quality and deliver the intended value.
· Cross-functional coordination: Coordinate closely with UI/UX Designers to ensure that feature requirements include design specifications and align with a great user experience. Work with the Data Science team to integrate AI-driven elements (like recommendation engines or chatbot features) into product features when applicable.
· Customer-centric iteration: Continuously gather feedback from users and stakeholders on the product (through demos, beta programs, or analytics insights). Use this feedback to refine backlog items and to make data-driven decisions on enhancements or fixes, ensuring our product consistently meets the evolving needs of our user base.
Requirements
· Experience: 4+ years of experience in a product ownership or business analysis role in an Agile software development environment. Proven ability to define and drive a product backlog for a web or mobile software product.
· Agile expertise: Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies. Experience writing user stories, running sprint planning, and collaborating with cross-functional Scrum teams. A Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or similar credential is a plus, but practical experience is most important.
· Domain familiarity: Experience with SaaS products and a passion for travel/technology sectors is essential. You should be able to quickly grasp travel industry user personas and workflows – whether it’s traveler self-service needs or internal tools for travel operators. Prior experience in travel-tech (online travel agencies, booking systems, etc.) is highly valued.
· Analytical & AI-minded: Comfortable working with data to inform decisions – whether it’s user behavior analytics, A/B testing results, or insights from AI models. While not a data scientist, you appreciate the value of AI tools and can collaborate with data teams to incorporate AI-driven features.
· Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication. Ability to clearly convey product requirements and business context to technical teams. Equally capable of articulating product changes and status to non-technical stakeholders or clients.
· Detail orientation: Strong attention to detail in specifying requirements and acceptance criteria. Ability to anticipate edge cases and clarify them to avoid ambiguity for the development and QA teams.
· Problem-solving: A user-centric mindset with strong problem-solving skills. Ability to break down complex problems (like improving a multi-step travel booking flow) into manageable, incremental solutions that can be delivered iteratively.
Preferred Qualifications
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, or related field. An MBA or Master’s related to product management or user experience can be a plus, indicating a broader business perspective.
· Travel industry insight: Direct experience working on products in the travel industry (e.g., booking platforms, itinerary planning tools, travel fintech) gives you a huge advantage in understanding our market and user expectations.
· Technical aptitude: While this is not a developer role, the ability to understand technical implications of decisions is valuable. Experience using tools like SQL for data querying, or familiarity with APIs, can help in communicating with the engineering team.
· User experience focus: Experience collaborating closely with UX/UI teams or a background in UX research. Any exposure to designing wireframes or conducting usability tests is a plus, demonstrating your investment in the user experience.
· AI product exposure: Experience working on a product that included AI or machine learning components (such as recommendation systems, chatbots, personalization features) – understanding the lifecycle of deploying such features and measuring their success.
· Certifications/Training: Additional certifications in product management (Pragmatic Institute, etc.) or training in design thinking, Agile leadership, etc., showing continuous learning and commitment to your craft.
