Position Summary

As an experienced Consultant at Deloitte Consulting, you will be responsible for individually delivering high quality work products within due timelines. Need-basis you will be mentoring and/or directing junior team members/liaising with onsite/offshore teams to understand the functional requirements.
Work you’ll do
Consultant DataStax Cassandra Database Administrator (DBA) is primarily responsible for the maintenance, optimization, and administration of existing Cassandra/DataStax Enterprise (DSE) clusters, collaborating closely with development teams on data modeling and performance. The role demands strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently with general supervision.
Apply industry knowledge to requirements gathering and analysis, ensuring alignment with sector needs. Demonstrate expertise across the entire software development lifecycle, from design and coding to deployment and defect resolution, collaborating with stakeholders for effective delivery. Conduct peer and team reviews to maintain quality standards. Actively engage in Agile practices, including sprint planning, retrospectives, and effort estimation. Build and share business process knowledge, supporting project knowledge management and team training. Proactively recommend process improvements, track efficiency gains, and contribute to automation and innovation, all aimed at enhancing project outcomes and delivering greater value to clients.

The DataStax Cassandra administrator prole involves setting up the cluster, optimizing read and write performance, and copying data from other file systems. Use technical knowledge to identify areas to improve. Provide flexible solutions to complex business problems using our technology practices. Collaborate closely with developers to implement requirements and provide necessary guidance. Support database backup and restore, including handling critical database scenarios.

Qualifications
Must Have Skills/Project Experience/Certifications:
- 3 - 6 years of hands-on experience in DataStax Casandra database administration
- Administer and support DataStax Cassandra environments across non-production and production, ensuring availability, performance, and security.
- Perform day-to-day operational tasks: monitoring/alerting review, incident triage, and routine maintenance.
- Configure and maintain clusters (node provisioning/decommissioning, repairs, compaction, backup/restore procedures) in line with change management processes.
- Support performance and stability troubleshooting (latency, timeouts, GC pressure, disk utilization, hotspotting); perform root-cause analysis and document fixes.
- Assist with capacity planning (storage growth, throughput, node sizing) based on usage trends and agreed targets.
- Support upgrades and patching (Cassandra/DataStax distribution and related components) with validation and rollback planning.
- Implement and maintain security controls (authentication/authorization, encryption, key management—as applicable) aligned to enterprise standards.
- Partner with application and platform teams on data model and query pattern reviews to reduce operational risk and improve performance.
- Maintain operational documentation (runbooks, standards, procedures) and participate in on-call/after-hours support as required.
