Engineering Manager, Financial & SCM Systems
AI-First · Financial Systems Engineering · People Manager
AI-First Role: This role is expected to actively use, champion, and govern AI tools across the team. AI fluency is a core competency — not a future initiative.
About the Role
We are looking for an AI-first Engineering Manager to own and evolve our Financial Systems capability. This role spans our full financial and operational technology stack — ERP, order management platforms, procurement, payment systems, and the integrations that connect them. You will lead a team of SDEs, Technical and Business Systems Analysts, drive AI-led productivity and transformation, and serve as the strategic bridge between Finance, Supply Chain, Operations, and Engineering.
This is not a role for someone who thinks of AI as a future initiative. You will use AI tools daily, expect your team to do the same, and actively measure the impact on delivery speed, quality, and cost.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Systems Ownership
- Own the technology roadmap for financial and operational systems — ERP, order management platforms, procurement, payment systems, and the integrations that connect them — aligned to business priorities and peak-season readiness
- Govern process design, configuration, and customizations across platforms to protect stability, auditability, and upgrade paths
- Ensure financial and operational controls, audit readiness (SOX), and data integrity across all owned systems
- Oversee UAT, release management, and production support with minimal disruption during high-volume periods
- Drive functional stability and incident resolution, including structured root cause analysis for recurring issues
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and develop a team of SDEs, Technical and Business Systems Analysts across technical and functional disciplines
- Set a high bar for AI tool adoption — ChatGPT/Claude, GitHub Copilot, Oracle AI — and coach team members on weaving these into daily workflows
- Build a data-driven team culture: track velocity, AI adoption rates, and time-to-resolution; use these metrics to drive coaching and improvement
- Develop career paths and growth plans that reflect both domain expertise and AI-first working practices
AI-Led Transformation
- Drive AI-augmented delivery: identify manual and repetitive workflows across the team and lead their replacement with AI-assisted approaches — AI-generated specs, Copilot-assisted code, AI-powered test generation, anomaly detection
- Set AI guardrails and standards: define responsible-use policies, data security guidelines, and quality checkpoints for AI tool use within a financial systems context
- Measure and report AI impact: track productivity gains, error reduction, and time savings attributable to AI adoption; present results and recommendations to senior leadership
Business Partnership & Stakeholder Alignment
- Partner with Finance, Supply Chain, and Operations to translate business needs into scalable, AI-augmented system solutions
- Act as a trusted advisor to business stakeholders — proactively surfacing AI opportunities, not just responding to requests
- Lead investment conversations with senior leadership, including trade-off decisions between new capability delivery, platform stability, and AI tooling
Vendor & Ecosystem Management
- Manage system integrators and software vendors (SaaS providers), ensuring quality, accountability, and alignment to the AI-first roadmap
- Evaluate new financial technology platforms and AI tools; make build-vs-buy recommendations grounded in total cost of ownership and strategic fit
Skills, Tools & Experience
Domain & Technical Expertise
- 8–12+ years of ERP functional and/or technical experience, with strong hands-on expertise in Finance (O2C, P2P, GL, AR, AP) and/or Supply Chain and integrations
- Proven experience leading teams in retail, eCommerce, or high-transaction environments with complex integration landscapes
- Strong understanding of end-to-end business processes and cross-system data flows
- Experience with financial platforms — order management, procurement, treasury, payment platforms — is a strong plus
AI Fluency
- Hands-on AI practitioner: active user of GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT / Claude, Oracle AI, or equivalent tools as part of your daily working practice — not as an experiment
- AI adoption leader: demonstrated experience driving AI tool adoption within a team, including setting standards, training others, and measuring productivity impact
- Automation track record: led automations leveraging cloud ERP native capabilities, low-code/no-code platforms, or AI-native tooling
- Familiarity with AI risk, governance, and compliance considerations in enterprise financial systems (data privacy, auditability, controls)
Leadership & Organizational Skills
- Demonstrated ability to build and retain high-performing teams with a culture of ownership, learning, and AI-first delivery
- Ability to balance speed, scalability, and controls with a product-oriented mindset
- Exceptional prioritization — able to triage competing demands across stability, delivery, and strategic initiatives without losing team focus
- Highly effective communicator across technical and non-technical audiences, from engineering teams to C-suite stakeholders
- Strong project management and process optimization instincts; thrives in fast-paced, high-ambiguity environments
- Naturally collaborative — effective across functions, time zones, and organizational layers
What Good Looks Like in 12 Months
- Your team has measurable, tracked AI tool adoption with documented productivity improvements reported to leadership
- Financial systems are stable through peak season with zero critical incidents attributable to systems failure
- At least two AI-augmented workflows are in production (e.g., AI-assisted reconciliation, Copilot-generated integration specs, AI-powered UAT)
- Business stakeholders describe you as a proactive partner, not a ticket-taker
- Two or more team members have grown into expanded scope or responsibility under your leadership
