Role & Responsibilities:
A senior interior designer is responsible for creating and leading design concepts through creative thought processes focused on user experience, materiality, and sustainable approaches, representing the company’s standard design quality. This role will be responsible for overseeing and contributing to the design process from concept to delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take a leadership role in the design process, providing guidance and direction to the design team.
- Lead the development of design concepts, ensuring they align with client objectives, project requirements, and industry trends.
- Engage with clients to understand their vision, goals, and requirements for the project. Foster strong client relationships, provide exceptional customer service, and present design concepts and recommendations effectively.
- Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, managing project timelines, budgets, and resources. Coordinate with clients, contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
- Translate design concepts into detailed plans, elevations, and specifications. Develop comprehensive design packages, including material selections, finishes, lighting plans, and furniture layouts.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, engineers, contractors, and consultants. Coordinate and integrate design elements with the architectural and engineering plans, ensuring a cohesive and well-executed design.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior designers, supporting their professional development and fostering a collaborative and creative work environment. Share industry knowledge, best practices, and design techniques with the team.
- Source and select vendors, suppliers, and contractors for materials, furniture, and fixtures. Establish and maintain relationships with industry partners, negotiating pricing, and ensuring timely delivery of materials and services.
- Develop project budgets and monitor project expenses throughout the design process. Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising design quality or client satisfaction.
- Stay informed about the latest trends, innovations, and emerging technologies in interior design. Conduct research on materials, finishes, products, and sustainability practices to enhance design offerings.
- Prepare and deliver compelling design presentations to clients and stakeholders, utilizing 2D and 3D visualizations, mood boards, and samples to effectively communicate design concepts and solutions.
- Ensure design integrity and quality by conducting regular site visits and inspections. Review and provide feedback on construction progress, installations, and finished spaces to ensure compliance with design intent.
Experience & Qualifications:
The minimum qualifications for this role are:
- A bachelor’s degree in interior design or a related field is required. Relevant coursework in design principles, space planning, drafting, and CAD software is beneficial.
- At least 7 years of experience in interior design, with a focus on project leadership and management.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire a design team, providing guidance, feedback, and mentorship.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and creatively.
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, or other similar tools is essential. Familiarity with graphic design software like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator is a plus.
- Strong design sensibility and the ability to generate innovative and visually appealing concepts. Knowledge of colour theory, materials, and finishes, as well as an understanding of design principles and aesthetics.
- Familiarity with local building codes, regulations, and industry standards to ensure compliance in design development and documentation.
