CNC Setter/Operator – Professional Description

A CNC Setter/Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines to manufacture precision components in accordance with engineering drawings and quality standards. This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret complex specifications to ensure efficient and accurate production.

Key Responsibilities:

Set up CNC machines (e.g., milling, turning, or multi-axis machines) according to job specifications and tooling requirements
Load and edit CNC programs as required to meet production needs
Select and install appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and attachments
Monitor machine operations to ensure parts are produced within tolerance and quality standards
Perform first-off inspections and in-process quality checks using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, verniers, gauges)
Troubleshoot machining issues and make necessary adjustments to maintain optimal performance
Maintain accurate production and quality documentation
Conduct routine machine maintenance and ensure a clean and safe working environment
Collaborate with engineers, programmers, and quality teams to improve manufacturing processes

Skills & Qualifications:

Proven experience operating and setting CNC machinery
Strong understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, and machining processes
Proficiency in reading technical documentation and blueprints
Knowledge of tooling selection, feeds and speeds, and material properties
Ability to use precision measuring equipment accurately
Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude
Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards
