This role is specifically for an experienced website designer and custom WordPress developer who has personally delivered complete website projects from concept to launch. We are not looking for transferable skills or adjacent experience — we are looking for proven website specialists with a portfolio of real-world, custom-coded WordPress websites. We are looking for a permanent in house web developer.
About the role
Stonebridge medical runs multi clinic medical services. We are a leading ear wax removal and audiology service business across the West Midlands, with multiple clinic locations, a training academy, and hundreds of five-star reviews. We are rebuilding our website (currently Elementor-based) as a fast, hand-coded custom WordPress site. We want one specialist to own it end to end: research and design it in Figma, then build it in clean custom code — protecting our existing search rankings and our booking-led conversion flow throughout.
This role IS
- Hand-coded custom WordPress — custom themes built from scratch
- Design and development combined: you design it in Figma AND build it
- A specialist website role, focused on conversion, SEO and performance
This role is NOT
- Page-builder work — NOT Elementor, Divi, WP Bakery, or any builder
- A general software / SaaS / mobile / backend engineering role
- Building someone else’s designs only — you must be able to design
Core responsibilities
- Lead the UX and visual design in Figma: wireframes, prototypes, high-fidelity designs and a reusable design system
- Build a custom WordPress theme from scratch from your own designs (no page builders)
- Carry out an SEO-safe migration: URL mapping, 301 redirects, metadata and structured data, protecting organic rankings
- Integrate our Cliniko booking system and online hearing-test flow reliably
- Implement structured data (LocalBusiness / MedicalClinic, Review, FAQ, Breadcrumb) across location and service pages
- Deliver strong Core Web Vitals, accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA) and GDPR-compliant forms
- Own the project from discovery through launch and post-launch support

- Your involvement in the launch process
Applications containing primarily page-builder websites will not be considered.
2. FIGMA & WEBSITE DESIGN
Provide links or screenshots of Figma projects that you personally created. Explain:
- Your design process
- How you create wireframes
- How you turn wireframes into high-fidelity designs
- How you develop design systems and component libraries
We are looking for someone with strong visual design ability, not someone who only develops designs created by others.
3. WEBSITE REBUILDS & MIGRATIONS
Describe at least 3 website rebuild or migration projects you have completed. For each, explain:
- The original platform
- The new platform
- How you handled URL mapping and redirects
- How you protected SEO rankings
- Any measurable results after launch
4. FRONT-END DEVELOPMENT
Describe your experience with:
- Semantic HTML
- SCSS / CSS architecture
- Responsive design
- Accessibility
- Performance optimisation
- Core Web Vitals
Provide examples of websites where you personally implemented these improvements.
5. WORDPRESS DEVELOPMENT
Describe your experience with:
- Custom themes
- Custom Gutenberg blocks
- ACF Pro
- Custom post types
- WordPress REST API
- Security best practices
- Performance optimisation
Please provide real project examples.
6. END-TO-END PROJECT OWNERSHIP
Describe one project where you were responsible for:
- Discovery

We are looking for candidates who have successfully delivered complete projects from start to finish.
7. WHAT WE ARE NOT LOOKING FOR
Please confirm whether your experience is primarily in any of the following:

- Enterprise software
- Mobile applications
- API development
- General software engineering
- DevOps
- Data engineering
If yes, please explain what percentage of your career has been spent designing and building custom websites.
Candidates whose primary experience is outside website design and development will not be shortlisted.
8. FINAL REQUIREMENT
In 300 words or less, explain why you believe you are a website specialist rather than a general full-stack developer. Include:
- Number of custom WordPress websites built
- Number of website migrations completed
- Years using Figma
- Years building custom WordPress themes
