Core Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Management: A mechanical design manager supervises a team of mechanical engineers and designers, providing guidance, mentoring, and performance evaluations. They foster collaboration, ensure skill development, and maintain productivity within the team Salary.com+1.
Project Oversight: They manage mechanical engineering projects from concept to completion, including scoping, scheduling, budgeting, and lifecycle management. This involves setting objectives, monitoring progress, and ensuring projects meet technical and quality standards Salary.com+1.
Technical Expertise: Responsibilities include reviewing and approving mechanical designs, performing structural and component calculations (e.g., gears, shafts, bearings), and ensuring compliance with industry standards and client specifications. They also optimize designs for manufacturability and cost efficiency LinkedIn+1.
Design and Documentation: Managers oversee the creation of detailed 2D and 3D CAD models, general assembly (GA) drawings, and sub-assembly documentation. They ensure proper tolerance analysis, GD&T application, and design validation through testing or simulation www.buildstream.co+1.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: They act as a liaison between engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and clients. This includes coordinating with other departments to identify new product opportunities, obtaining approvals, and resolving technical issues Salary.com+1.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; advanced degrees may be preferred for senior roles LinkedIn+1.
Extensive experience in mechanical design, often 10–15 years in relevant industries such as heavy engineering, material handling, or automotive LinkedIn.
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS) and engineering calculation tools (e.g., Mathcad, Excel) for complex component design LinkedIn+1.
Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication skills for team and client interactions
Knowledge of industry standards, regulatory requirements, and manufacturing processes Salary.
