Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain API-led integrations on MuleSoft Anypoint Platform (System, Process, and Experience APIs) supporting the digital ordering pipeline.
- Develop and optimize DataWeave transformations, connectors, and error-handling flows for high-throughput, high-reliability message processing.
- Integrate external partner systems and EMR/EHR platforms with internal LIMS and order-management systems using healthcare interoperability standards (HL7 v2, FHIR) and common integration patterns (REST, SOAP, messaging, file-based).
- Own API design and lifecycle management — RAML/OpenAPI specs, versioning, API policies, and governance in Anypoint API Manager and Exchange.
- Build robust observability into integrations: logging, alerting, monitoring, and SLA tracking so that order failures are caught and resolved quickly.
- Design for resilience — idempotency, retries with backoff, dead-letter handling, and reconciliation — to guarantee no order is silently lost or duplicated.
- Lead code reviews, establish integration best practices and reusable patterns, and mentor mid-level and junior engineers.
- Partner with product, EMR operations, LIMS, and data engineering teams to translate ordering-workflow requirements into technical designs.
- Support production operations for the ordering pipeline, including root-cause analysis of incidents and driving durable fixes.
- Ensure all integrations meet security, privacy, and compliance requirements for handling PHI (HIPAA and related standards).
- Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with 4+ years building integrations on MuleSoft Anypoint Platform.
- Strong hands-on expertise with Mule 4, DataWeave, Anypoint Studio, API Manager, Exchange, and deployment to CloudHub and/or Runtime Fabric.
- Proven experience designing API-led connectivity architectures and RESTful APIs (RAML/OpenAPI).
- Solid programming fundamentals in Java (or a comparable JVM language) and strong SQL skills.
- Deep understanding of integration patterns: synchronous vs. asynchronous messaging, queues/topics, batch processing, and event-driven design.
- Experience building fault-tolerant integrations with strong error handling, retry, and reconciliation strategies.
- Track record of debugging and resolving production integration issues.
- Experience working with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work across engineering, product, and operations teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- MuleSoft Certified Developer or Integration Architect certification.
- Experience in healthcare, diagnostics, or life sciences, especially with clinical ordering or results workflows.
- Working knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards: HL7 v2, FHIR, and EMR/EHR integration (e.g., Epic).
- Familiarity with LIMS and laboratory order/result data flows.
- Experience handling PHI in a HIPAA-regulated environment.
- Exposure to observability tooling (e.g., Splunk, CloudWatch) for integration monitoring.
