Role Overview - Group Head (Copy)

The Group Head - Copy will lead the copy function at WPP Production, driving creative excellence across a diverse portfolio of brands and categories. The role combines creative leadership, team management, hands-on copywriting, client engagement and campaign development.

The ideal candidate will be a strong conceptual thinker and writer who can lead a team, maintain high creative standards, develop campaigns from brief to execution, and confidently collaborate with creative, strategy and client teams across social and digital platforms.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

Lead, mentor and develop a team of copywriters, ensuring high-quality creative output.
Own the overall copy quality, tone and consistency across multiple brands and categories.
Develop and review campaign concepts, scripts, social media copy, digital content and brand communication.
Partner with Art Directors, Designers, Strategy, Account Management and other stakeholders to develop integrated campaigns.
Take campaigns from brief, ideation, conceptualisation until execution.
Lead and contribute to creative pitches and new business presentations.
Present ideas and creative work to clients and confidently defend creative recommendations.
Manage multiple clients and projects simultaneously, adapting to different brand voices, timelines and business requirements.
Provide constructive feedback and creative direction to writers and cross-functional teams.
Identify and nurture emerging copy talent and contribute to building a strong copywriting talent pipeline.
Stay hands-on with writing and creative development when required.

Skills & Capabilities Required

7+ years of relevant agency experience, preferably across network and/or boutique agencies.
Strong and diverse portfolio spanning multiple industries, brands and communication formats.
Proven experience in leading and mentoring copywriting teams while remaining hands-on with creative work.
Strong copywriting, conceptualisation, storytelling and campaign development skills.
Experience taking campaigns from brief and ideation through execution across social, digital and integrated platforms.
Strong understanding of digital-first and social-first communication.
Ability to manage multiple brands, clients and brand voices simultaneously.
Excellent client-facing, presentation and communication skills, with the confidence to present and defend creative ideas.
Strong ability to collaborate with Art Directors, Designers, Strategy, Account Management and Production teams.
Ability to maintain high standards of creative quality, tone and brand consistency.
Strong mentoring skills with the ability to develop junior talent and provide constructive creative feedback.
Ability to work effectively under pressure, manage competing priorities and adapt to different client requirements.
