Senior SQL Developer / Database Architect Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior SQL Developer / Database Architect with 10+ years of experience in designing, developing, optimizing, and architecting enterprise-grade database solutions. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, relational database design, data modeling, performance tuning, and large-scale data processing.

This role is responsible for defining database architecture standards, designing scalable data models, developing high-performance SQL solutions, and ensuring data integrity across mission-critical applications. The position requires a strong technical leader who can collaborate with development teams, guide best practices, and drive database excellence across the organization.

Key Responsibilities Database Architecture & Design

Design and architect scalable, secure, and high-performing database solutions for enterprise applications.
Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models aligned with business and technical requirements.
Define database standards, naming conventions, design patterns, and development best practices.
Lead database schema design, normalization, denormalization, partitioning, and data governance initiatives.
Evaluate and recommend database architecture improvements to support business growth and scalability.
Conduct database design reviews and provide technical leadership to development teams.

Core SQL Development

Design, develop, optimize, and maintain complex T-SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, views, and triggers.
Build efficient and scalable database logic to support transactional and analytical applications.
Translate complex business requirements into high-performing SQL solutions.
Refactor existing SQL code to improve performance, maintainability, and readability.
Develop reusable database components and frameworks to accelerate development.

Query Performance & Optimization

Analyze execution plans and identify performance bottlenecks.
Design and implement indexing strategies to improve application performance.
Optimize high-volume transactional and reporting workloads.
Monitor database performance metrics and proactively recommend enhancements.
Improve query response times, throughput, and overall database efficiency.

Data Modeling & Data Management

Design robust relational data models for enterprise systems.
Ensure data integrity, consistency, and accuracy across databases.
Establish and maintain data relationships, constraints, and referential integrity.
Support master data management and data governance initiatives.
Create and maintain comprehensive database documentation and data dictionaries.

Data Processing & ETL

Design and develop SQL-based ETL processes and data transformation workflows.
Build scalable data pipelines to support reporting, analytics, integrations, and downstream applications.
Optimize data loading and transformation processes for performance and reliability.
Ensure data quality through validation, reconciliation, and exception handling.

Troubleshooting & Production Support

Diagnose and resolve SQL-related production issues and performance problems.
Investigate data inconsistencies and implement corrective actions.
Support mission-critical applications with timely issue resolution.
Perform root cause analysis and recommend long-term solutions.

Collaboration & Leadership

Partner with Product Managers, Architects, Developers, and Business Analysts to deliver data-driven solutions.
Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews, and design discussions.
Mentor junior and mid-level SQL developers on database design and SQL best practices.
Contribute to Agile planning, estimation, and sprint execution activities.
Promote continuous improvement in database development processes and standards.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
10+ years of hands-on experience in Microsoft SQL Server development and database architecture.
Expert-level proficiency in T-SQL, stored procedures, functions, triggers, views, and complex query development.
Strong experience in relational database design, normalization, and data modeling.
Extensive experience with query optimization, indexing strategies, and execution plan analysis.
Proven experience designing and supporting high-volume transactional databases.
Deep understanding of database scalability, performance tuning, and data integrity principles.
Experience developing SQL-based ETL and data transformation solutions.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Experience working within Agile/Scrum development environments.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with SSIS or comparable ETL platforms.
Exposure to Power BI, SSRS, Tableau, or other reporting and analytics tools.
Experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Factory, or cloud-based data platforms.
Knowledge of Data Warehousing, Star Schema, and Dimensional Modeling concepts.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and database deployment automation.
Experience with database security, auditing, and compliance best practices.
