Job Summary
We are looking for a Testing Engineer with 1–2 years of experience in the electrical manufacturing industry, preferably in Current Transformer (CT), Potential Transformer (PT/VT), and Instrument Transformer testing.
The candidate will be responsible for conducting routine and type tests, preparing test reports, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and customer specifications, and coordinating with Production, Quality, Design, and other departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform electrical and routine testing of CT, PT/VT and Instrument Transformers.
- Conduct tests as per approved procedures, drawings, specifications, and applicable IS/IEC standards.
- Perform and understand tests such as:
- Insulation Resistance (IR) Test
- Winding Resistance Test
- Ratio Test
- Polarity Test
- Excitation / Magnetizing Current Test
- Knee Point Voltage Test
- Accuracy / Error Test
- Burden Test
- High Voltage / Applied Voltage Test
- Induced Voltage Test
- Partial Discharge Test, where applicable
- Tan Delta / Capacitance Test, where applicable
- Operate and maintain testing equipment and test setups safely.
- Verify test instruments and ensure their calibration status before testing.
- Record test results accurately and prepare Test Reports / Routine Test Certificates.
- Analyze test results and identify abnormal readings or deviations.
- Coordinate with the Production and Quality teams for rectification of testing-related issues.
- Support troubleshooting of transformer testing failures and assist in root-cause analysis.
- Ensure testing is carried out according to customer requirements and approved technical specifications.
- Maintain proper testing records, checklists, calibration records, and other quality documents.
- Assist during customer inspection, third-party inspection, and witness testing.
- Support type/special testing activities whenever required.
- Ensure proper housekeeping and safety practices in the testing laboratory.
- Follow electrical safety procedures while working with high-voltage testing equipment.
- Assist in maintaining and improving testing procedures and quality standards.
Required Technical Skills
- Good knowledge of Current Transformer (CT), Potential Transformer (PT/VT), and Instrument Transformers.
- Basic understanding of transformer construction and electrical characteristics.
- Knowledge of CT ratio, polarity, accuracy class, burden, excitation characteristics, knee point, and ALF/FS.
- Basic understanding of PT ratio, accuracy class, burden, and insulation requirements.
- Familiarity with IS/IEC standards related to CT/PT and Instrument Transformers.
- Ability to read electrical drawings, technical specifications, and test procedures.
- Knowledge of electrical measuring instruments and testing equipment.
- Basic knowledge of MS Excel and preparation of test reports.
Qualification & Experience
- B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering.
- 1–2 years of experience in testing/quality in an electrical manufacturing industry.
- Experience in CT/PT, Instrument Transformer, Transformer, Switchgear, or similar electrical products will be preferred.
- Fresh candidates with strong practical knowledge of electrical testing may also be considered.
