Role Overview
We are looking for a creative and technically versatile Junior WordPress Full Stack Developer to join our team on a 3-month contractual basis, with a clear pathway to full-time employment based on performance and business requirements.
This role spans both frontend implementation and backend WordPress development, including theme and plugin customization, database interaction, third-party integrations, and website performance optimization. The ideal candidate is comfortable working across the WordPress ecosystem, has a strong eye for design, and can deliver high-quality solutions in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Frontend Development
- Design and develop responsive, visually appealing WordPress websites aligned with brand guidelines.
- Convert wireframes, design mockups, and creative briefs into functional web pages.
- Customize WordPress themes and work with page builders such as Elementor or Gutenberg to build and refine layouts.
- Ensure websites are optimized for desktop, tablet, and mobile devices with consistent cross-browser performance.
- Implement modern UI/UX best practices to enhance user experience and engagement.
Backend Development
- Develop and customize WordPress themes and plugins using PHP and WordPress coding standards.
- Work with MySQL databases, including managing custom post types, taxonomies, and custom fields.
- Integrate third-party services such as payment gateways, CRM platforms, marketing tools, and external APIs.
- Implement and manage WordPress hooks (actions and filters) to extend functionality.
- Support user role management, permissions, and content workflows as required.
Performance, Security & Maintenance
- Optimize websites for speed, usability, and overall performance through caching, image optimization, and efficient coding practices.
- Apply WordPress security best practices, including regular updates, plugin maintenance, and website monitoring.
- Use Git for version control and collaborative development workflows.
- Troubleshoot and resolve frontend issues, backend errors, and plugin conflicts efficiently.
- Assist with website deployment, testing, and maintenance activities.
Collaboration & Development Workflows
- Collaborate with marketing, content, and design teams to deliver projects on time and within scope.
- Communicate project progress, blockers, and timelines clearly with stakeholders.
- Contribute ideas to improve development processes, code quality, and project outcomes.
- Stay updated with emerging WordPress technologies and industry best practices.
Required Skills
- Solid understanding of WordPress CMS, including themes, plugins, custom post types, hooks, and the WordPress Loop.
- Proficiency in PHP and WordPress theme/plugin customization.
- Strong command of HTML5, CSS3, responsive web design, Flexbox, and CSS Grid.
- Working knowledge of JavaScript and jQuery for frontend interactivity.
- Familiarity with MySQL and WordPress database structures.
- Hands-on experience with Elementor, Gutenberg, or a similar page builder.
- Basic understanding of REST API integration and third-party services.
- Familiarity with Git and GitHub for version control.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to writing clean, maintainable code.
- Good problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience building custom WordPress themes beyond page builder-based implementations.
- Familiarity with WooCommerce, including product management and template customization.
- Experience working with Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) or similar tools.
- Basic understanding of website deployment workflows and staging environments.
- Familiarity with design tools such as Figma or Adobe XD.
- Awareness of SEO best practices and commonly used WordPress SEO tools.
- Portfolio demonstrating WordPress projects involving both frontend and backend development.
- Self-motivated, eager to learn, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, diploma, or certification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Web Development, or a related field.
- 0–2 years of experience in WordPress development or a related role.
- Freshers and recent graduates are encouraged to apply if they have a strong portfolio and hands-on project experience.
- Equivalent self-taught experience, certifications, or bootcamp training will also be considered.
