The Rohru Centre serves as a residential and rehabilitation facility providing educational, developmental, and life-skills support to children and adults with disabilities. The centre emphasizes holistic development through academics, recreation, creativity, life-skills, and community engagement.
Position Summary
The Activity Teacher will be responsible for planning, organizing, and conducting educational, recreational, cultural, creative, sports, and life-skills activities for students with visual impairment and other disabilities. The role aims to promote physical, emotional, social, and creative development while enhancing confidence, independence, teamwork, and self-expression among students.
The Activity Teacher will work closely with Special Educators, Wardens, Helpers, and other staff members to ensure that activities are inclusive, accessible, engaging, and aligned with the developmental needs of participants.
Key ResponsibilitiesActivity Planning and Implementation
- Design and conduct structured activity programs for students across different age groups and abilities.
- Develop monthly and annual activity plans aligned with the centre’s educational and rehabilitation goals.
- Organize creative, recreational, cultural, and developmental activities that encourage participation and learning.
- Ensure activities are adapted to meet the needs of students with visual impairment and other disabilities.
- Create a stimulating and inclusive environment that promotes active engagement.
Creative and Cultural Activities
- Conduct activities related to:
- Music and singing
- Dance and movement
- Drama and role play
- Storytelling
- Arts and crafts
- Creative expression
- Cultural awareness
- Prepare students for performances, exhibitions, competitions, and cultural events.
- Encourage creativity, confidence, and self-expression among participants.
Sports and Recreational Activities
- Organize indoor and outdoor games suitable for students with disabilities.
- Promote physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Facilitate participation in adapted sports and recreational activities.
- Support students in district, state, and national-level competitions whenever applicable.
Life Skills and Personal Development

Student Engagement and Support

- Provide emotional support and encouragement where needed.
Event Management and Community Participation
- Organize celebrations of national days, festivals, awareness events, and special occasions.
- Coordinate competitions, exhibitions, sports days, talent shows, and cultural programs.
- Assist in organizing workshops, camps, educational visits, and community engagement activities.
- Support inclusive events involving parents, volunteers, schools, and community members.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain records of activities conducted and student participation.
- Document achievements, performances, competitions, and success stories.
- Prepare activity reports, attendance records, photographs, and other required documentation.
- Contribute to donor reports and program documentation when required.
Collaboration and Coordination
- Work closely with Special Educators, Wardens, Helpers, and rehabilitation staff.
- Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and training programs.
- Coordinate with parents and caregivers when necessary to support student development.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support the overall functioning of the Rohru Centre.
- Participate in outreach programs, awareness campaigns, and special initiatives organized by Saksham.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Centre Coordinator.
Required QualificationsEssential
- Graduate in any discipline from a recognized university.
Preferred
- Degree/Diploma in Education, Physical Education, Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Music, Psychology, Social Work, Child Development, or a related field.
- Training or certification in sports, arts, music, recreation, or life-skills education.
- Experience working with children and persons with disabilities.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1–3 years of relevant experience in teaching, recreation, activity coordination, youth development, or disability-related programs.
- Experience in special schools, NGOs, residential facilities, or educational institutions will be preferred.
