The Backend Solutions Engineer Intern is a backend-first role that helps make EvolutionCo products work inside specific customer environments. The focus is on APIs, integrations, data, authentication, backend services, reliability, and AI/LLM workflow adaptation rather than broad frontend ownership.
Role Overview
This role sits between core backend engineering and customer implementation. You will build integrations, extend backend services, adapt AI workflows to customer data, migrate data, and debug issues that appear during onboarding and deployment.
You should be comfortable understanding how an endpoint fits into authentication, data models, background jobs, customer systems, testing, and production support - not just how to write the endpoint itself.
What You Will Work On
- Build and maintain integrations between EvolutionCo platforms and customer or third-party systems using APIs, webhooks, SSO, and data connectors.
- Develop custom backend services, endpoints, workers, scripts, and utilities for deployment-specific requirements.
- Configure and adapt AI/LLM workflows such as RAG pipelines, prompt configurations, embeddings, and model connectors for customer data.
- Build technical POCs and backend prototypes for prospective and existing customer requirements.
- Work with authentication, authorization, role-based access, multi-tenancy, API security, and secrets in customer deployments.
- Migrate, transform, validate, and load customer data; design schemas, mappings, and data models where needed.
- Debug customer-reported issues across services, APIs, logs, databases, and background jobs, then implement or coordinate fixes.
- Write unit and integration tests for delivered functionality and support CI/CD quality checks.
- Automate repetitive configuration, deployment, or support tasks and build reusable internal tooling.
- Produce concise technical documentation, integration guides, configuration notes, and runbooks.
- Collaborate with solutions, product, and customer-facing teams to convert requirements into reliable backend implementations.
Technical Environment
- Languages: Python (primary), SQL; JavaScript / TypeScript and Bash are useful.
- Backend: FastAPI, Flask, Django, Node.js / Express.
- Databases: PostgreSQL / MySQL, schemas, migrations; MongoDB exposure is useful.
- Integrations: REST, GraphQL, webhooks, gRPC, API keys, rate limits.
- Auth / identity: OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML / SSO, JWT, secrets management.
- AI / LLM: OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, RAG, embeddings, vector databases such as pgvector, Pinecone, or Qdrant.
- Async / messaging: Redis, background jobs, queues/workers such as Celery or ARQ.
- Data / DevOps: ETL, CSV / JSON / Parquet, Docker, Git/GitHub, CI/CD, basic AWS / Azure / GCP.
- Observability / tools: logging, monitoring, tracing, Postman / Insomnia, curl.
Required Skills
- Strong programming fundamentals in Python or another backend language, including data structures, algorithms, and OOP.
- Good understanding of REST APIs, HTTP, backend/server-side development, and API error handling.
- Working knowledge of SQL and relational database fundamentals.
- Basic understanding of authentication, authorization, API security, and concepts such as JWT or OAuth.
- Hands-on experience calling an AI/LLM API or building an AI-powered backend feature.
- Comfort with Git, debugging unfamiliar code, and tracing a request through a system.
- Ability to write clean, maintainable, tested, and documented code.
- Clear written and verbal communication for technical documentation and customer-adjacent work.
Good to Have
- FastAPI, Flask, Django, Node.js / Express, or similar backend framework experience.
- Third-party API integrations, webhooks, SSO, OAuth/OIDC/SAML, or enterprise identity work.
- RAG, embeddings, vector databases, data migration, or ETL experience.
- Docker, cloud platforms, automated tests, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Redis, queues/background workers, observability, or production support exposure.
- Any client-facing, technical support, consulting, implementation, or freelance experience.

A backend-minded problem solver who enjoys making systems work in the real world. The ideal candidate can turn a vague integration or deployment requirement into a clean backend solution, debug methodically, document clearly, and collaborate with both engineers and customer-facing teams.
Eligibility
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree/diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Strong self-taught builders with demonstrable project work are also welcome.
- Academic projects, personal projects, GitHub repositories, hackathons, previous internships, or freelance work that demonstrate the ability to build and ship are highly valued.
Internship Development Framework
- Structured onboarding into the relevant EvolutionCo platforms, engineering practices, and active solution areas.
- Clear task allocation and an explicit learning roadmap aligned to the role.
- Active mentoring from the team lead / senior engineers.
- Ongoing performance tracking and evaluation against engineering quality, ownership, learning speed, communication, and delivery outcomes.
