Job Description – VMC Operator (Hartford Double Column)Job Summary
Devki Technocrat India Pvt Ltd is seeking an experienced VMC Operator to operate and manage Hartford Double Column Vertical Machining Center (VMC) machines for precision machining of large and heavy engineering components. The ideal candidate should possess strong knowledge of 2D CNC programming, engineering drawing interpretation, gauge usage, and machine preventive maintenance to ensure high productivity, accuracy, and machine reliability.
Key ResponsibilitiesMachine Operation
- Operate Hartford Double Column VMC machines for machining heavy and large components.
- Setup jobs on the machine including fixtures, tools, offsets, and work coordinates.
- Execute and modify 2D VMC programs based on machining requirements.
- Monitor machining operations to ensure smooth and safe production.
Drawing Interpretation & Programming
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and machining instructions.
- Understand basic GD&T principles and machining requirements.
- Assist in program optimization and troubleshooting machining issues.
Quality Control & Inspection
- Perform in-process inspection of components during machining.
- Use precision measuring gauges and instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances.
- Ensure components meet quality standards and drawing specifications.
Gauges & Measurement Tools Knowledge
Must be proficient in using:
- Vernier Caliper
- Micrometer (Inside & Outside)
- Bore Gauge
- Height Gauge
- Dial Indicator
- Slip Gauges / Gauge Blocks (preferred)
Machine Maintenance
- Perform routine preventive maintenance of VMC machines.
- Check lubrication systems, coolant levels, and machine alignment.
- Report abnormal machine sounds, vibrations, or tool wear to maintenance or supervisor.
Shop Floor Discipline
- Maintain 5S standards and cleanliness around the machine.
- Follow all safety protocols and operational procedures.
- Coordinate with production, quality, and maintenance teams for smooth workflow.
Required Skills & Technical Knowledge
- Knowledge of 2D CNC Programming for VMC machines.
- Strong engineering drawing reading skills.
- Knowledge of precision gauges and inspection techniques.
- Understanding of feeds, speeds, cutting tools, and machining parameters.
- Ability to perform machine setup and tool offset adjustments.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices for CNC/VMC machines.
Qualifications
- ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Machinist, or CNC Operator.
- Certification in CNC programming or VMC machine operation will be an added advantage.
Experience
- 3 – 7 years of experience operating Double Column VMC machines.
- Experience with Hartford machines or similar large CNC machining centers preferred.
- Experience machining large heavy industrial parts is highly desirable.

Compensation
Salary will be competitive and based on experience, technical skills, and performance.
