We are a fast-growing medical device company serving customers across multiple geographies. Our operations rely on robust data pipelines, quality processes, and reliable metrics to ensure patient safety and regulatory compliance. As an Operations Engineer, you will own and evolve our operational metrics infrastructure. You will take over existing metrics, build scalable data extraction pipelines, and deliver automated dashboards that give stakeholders real-time visibility into operations. Beyond the technical build, you will be a strategic contributor — continuously evaluating the relevance of metrics, identifying gaps, and driving changes to quality processes across the organisation. This role sits at the intersection of data engineering, operations, and quality — ideal for someone who is as comfortable querying a database as they are influencing process improvement conversations with cross-functional teams.
Who We Are:
Sleepiz AG (Ltd.) is a Zürich based startup with a mission to provide patient-centric disease management through seamless integration of contactless monitoring into people’s homes. Sleepiz leverages the power of sleep insights with a device simply placed on the bedside table. Our medical device, the ‘Sleepiz One+’ is the world’s first and, till-date, only non-contact vital signs monitor with CE Class IIa certification under European Medical Device Regulation (EU MDR) and FDA 510(k) Class II clearance in the USA.
Key Responsibilities:
A. Metrics & Dashboard Ownership
· Take ownership of existing operational metrics and ensure their continued accuracy, relevance, and reliability.
· Design, build, and maintain automated dashboards that surface operational KPIs to stakeholders across geographies.
· Establish and enforce data quality standards for all metrics ingested into reporting systems.
· Proactively review dashboard usage and metric effectiveness; retire or evolve metrics as business needs change.
B. Data Extraction & Engineering
· Develop scripts and integrations to extract, transform, and load data from operational databases and internal systems via the company API and direct SQL queries.
· Write safe, well-tested SQL scripts for database interaction, ensuring data integrity and compliance with regulatory requirements.
· Automate recurring data extraction and reporting workflows, reducing manual effort and human error.
· Collaborate with engineering teams to extend API capabilities where pipeline needs require it.
C. Process Improvement & Quality
· Continuously assess operational workflows and metrics to identify inefficiencies, gaps, or compliance risks.
· Drive and document changes to quality processes in collaboration with Quality, Regulatory, and Operations teams.
· Act as a subject-matter expert on operational data, translating analytical findings into actionable recommendations.
· Support audit readiness by maintaining accurate, traceable records of data flows and process changes.
· Partner with customer-facing and regional teams to understand operational challenges across geographies and incorporate them into reporting.
Key Requirements:
· 3+ years of experience in an operations engineering, data engineering, or similar technical operations role.
· Strong proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, and data pipeline development.
· Solid SQL skills with experience writing complex queries against relational databases in a production or regulated environment.
· Hands-on experience with AWS services (e.g. S3, Lambda, RDS, Glue, CloudWatch, or similar) for building and maintaining data infrastructure.
· Proven ability to integrate with REST APIs and leverage well-documented APIs for data extraction.
· Experience building and maintaining automated dashboards and reporting tools (e.g. Grafana, Tableau, Metabase, or similar).
· Strong analytical mindset with a track record of translating operational data into process improvements.
· Excellent communication skills; able to convey technical findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
· High attention to detail and comfort working in regulated industries where data accuracy is critical.
Nice To Have
· Experience in the medical device, life sciences, or healthcare industry, with familiarity with quality management systems (QMS) or regulatory frameworks such as ISO 13485 or FDA 21 CFR Part 11.
· Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g. Terraform, CDK) for managing AWS resources.
· Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, AWS Step Functions, or Prefect.
· Exposure to data warehousing solutions (e.g. Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery) and modern ELT patterns.
· Knowledge of version control practices and CI/CD pipelines for deploying data scripts and configuration changes.
· Experience with monitoring and alerting on data pipelines to proactively catch failures or data drift.
· Multilingual or international work experience is a plus given our multi-geography customer base.
