Full job description

Role Summary

The Traffic Engineer will support the planning, design, implementation, operations, and maintenance of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) with a focus on ITMS, ATCS, and ATMS

He will work with product engineers and system integrators to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable traffic operations using advanced sensing, communication, and control technologies deployed across urban corridors and highways.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the design, configuration, and validation of ITMS and ATCS solutions including traffic signal control strategies, detector layouts, and field device integration.
Support implementation and operations of Highway ITMS including ATMS, MLFF, ANPR, speed enforcement and incident detection systems.
Participate in development and fine-tuning of signal timing plans, coordination plans, and adaptive control logic for urban intersections and corridors.
Conduct traffic data collection and analysis (volumes, speeds, travel times, queue lengths, violation data) to support design, performance evaluation, and optimization of ITS schemes.
Assist in the preparation and review of traffic engineering and ITS design deliverables such as layout drawings, device schedules, cable routing, and interface
Support factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), and system integration testing for ITMS, ATCS, and Smart Highway subsystems.
Monitor live system performance from traffic management / command centers and coordinate with field teams for issue resolution, calibration, and system fine-tuning.
Assist in preparing technical reports, incident and performance summaries, and MIS/analytics reports for clients and internal management based on ITS data.
Ensure solutions comply with relevant standards, guidelines, and client specifications for traffic engineering, ITS, safety, and communications.
Provide on-site support during deployment, commissioning, and maintenance activities on city roads and highways.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related discipline.
2–4 years of experience in traffic/transportation engineering with hands-on exposure to ITS/ITMS/ATCS and/or ATMS projects

Required Technical Experience

The candidate should have practical, on-ground exposure in most of the following areas:

Experience working on at least one implemented ITMS project (urban or highway) involving components such as ANPR, speed enforcement, red-light violation detection, incident detection, and CCTV-based monitoring.
Experience working on adaptive or coordinated traffic signal control projects (ATCS or similar), including data collection, basic timing/coordination inputs, and field validation of plans.
Familiarity with traffic analysis and modeling tools (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM, HCS or equivalent) for basic intersection/corridor performance analysis will be an advantage.
Basic understanding of traffic signal controllers, vehicle detectors, communication networks (fibre, Ethernet, wireless), and IP-based field devices.

Skills and Competencies

Solid foundation in traffic engineering principles (capacity, level of service, signal timing concepts, safety).
Ability to work with large volumes of operational data (traffic counts, violations, incidents) and derive actionable insights for system tuning and reporting.
Proficiency in MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for analysis and documentation; basic CAD skills (AutoCAD/MicroStation or equivalent) preferred.
Good written and verbal communication skills to interact with internal teams, client representatives, and field staff.
Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams (traffic, electrical, IT/SCADA, OEMs, civil contractors) under tight project timelines.
Proactive, willing to learn and work on emerging ITS and Smart Mobility technologies.
Open to frequent site visits and field work on urban roads and highways.
Strong ownership mindset with focus on safety, reliability, and service continuity of live systems.

Work Location and Travel

Primary location: Bangalore
Willingness to travel to project sites, traffic management centers, and client offices as per project needs, including occasional night or weekend work during commissioning and major changes.

Pay: From ₹650,000.00 per year
