- Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences, Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT), Biotechnology, Healthcare Management, or a related field.
- MBA in Operations, Healthcare Management, Hospital Administration, or a related discipline is preferred.
Job Summary
The Operations Manager – Pathology is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end operations of the diagnostic business, ensuring efficient laboratory operations, exceptional service delivery, operational excellence, and compliance with quality and regulatory standards. The role involves managing laboratories, collection centres, logistics, manpower, customer service, inventory, and process optimization while supporting business growth and expansion across multiple locations.
The ideal candidate should possess strong leadership, operational management, and stakeholder coordination skills, with proven experience in diagnostic laboratories or hospital operations.
Key Responsibilities1. Operations Management
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of central laboratories, collection centres, satellite laboratories, and onsite diagnostic units.
- Ensure seamless execution of pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical laboratory processes.
- Monitor sample collection, transportation, accessioning, processing, reporting, and report dispatch activities.
- Ensure adherence to defined Turnaround Time (TAT), quality standards, and service-level agreements.
- Maintain uninterrupted laboratory operations across all assigned locations.
2. Process Improvement
- Develop, implement, and periodically review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Identify operational bottlenecks and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, operational efficiency, and service quality.
- Standardize operational processes across all laboratory locations.
3. Quality & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with NABL standards, Biomedical Waste Management Rules, and all applicable statutory regulations.
- Coordinate internal quality audits, external assessments, and accreditation activities.
- Ensure timely closure of audit observations and implementation of corrective actions.
- Promote quality management systems and patient safety initiatives.
4. Team Leadership & People Management
- Lead, mentor, and motivate laboratory, logistics, collection centre, and operations teams.
- Plan manpower deployment, shift scheduling, and workforce productivity.
- Coordinate recruitment, onboarding, induction, training, and competency development of operational staff.
- Conduct performance reviews and foster a culture of accountability and continuous learning.
5. Customer & Client Management
- Ensure prompt resolution of customer concerns, complaints, and operational issues.
- Maintain strong relationships with hospitals, corporate clients, collection centres, franchise partners, and referring physicians.
- Monitor service quality and customer satisfaction through regular feedback and service reviews.
- Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality diagnostic services.
6. Logistics & Supply Chain Management
- Oversee sample transportation and logistics to ensure timely and safe movement of specimens.
- Monitor inventory levels of reagents, consumables, laboratory supplies, and operational materials.
- Coordinate with Procurement and vendors to ensure uninterrupted availability of critical supplies.
- Minimize stock-outs and optimize inventory utilization.
7. Business Expansion & Project Support
- Support the operational setup of new laboratories, collection centres, franchisees, and onsite diagnostic projects.
- Participate in site assessments, infrastructure planning, and operational readiness activities.
- Coordinate with Project Management and cross-functional teams for successful implementation of expansion projects.
- Ensure smooth operational transition during new facility launches.
8. Financial & Cost Management
- Monitor operational budgets and ensure efficient utilization of resources.
- Identify cost optimization opportunities without compromising quality and service standards.
- Control operational expenses related to manpower, logistics, inventory, and facility management.
- Support financial planning and budget forecasting.
9. MIS & Performance Reporting
- Prepare and present daily, weekly, and monthly operational MIS reports.
- Monitor and analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including:
- Turnaround Time (TAT)
- Sample volumes
- Sample rejection rates
- Customer complaints
- Productivity metrics
- Equipment utilization
- Operational efficiency
- Present operational dashboards and performance reports to senior management with actionable insights.
10. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Collaborate with Laboratory, Sales, HR, Finance, IT, Procurement, Quality Assurance, Marketing, and Business Development teams.
- Support organizational initiatives, process improvements, and strategic projects.
- Ensure effective communication and coordination among all stakeholders.
