Job Description – Creative Head (Pre-Production)
Company: Mind Media Entertainment
Department: Pre-Production / Creative
Role: Creative Head – Pre-Production
Reports To: Production Head / Management
Team: Creative Producers + Scriptwriters
Role Purpose
The Creative Head is responsible for the overall performance of the Pre-Production Department.
This role does not exist to personally write every script or generate every idea. The Creative Head must build and run a system in which Creative Producers and Scriptwriters consistently produce strong, relevant, executable and performance-oriented content on time.
The person will own creative quality, content systems, team capability, deadlines, capacity planning, QC standards and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
1. Own the Pre-Production Department
Take end-to-end ownership of pre-production output across all clients. Ensure the department operates without constant intervention from management and that deadlines, quality standards and processes are consistently maintained.
2. Lead Creative Producers & Scriptwriters
Manage and develop the Creative Producers and Scriptwriters. Set clear expectations, review performance, identify skill gaps, coach team members and build future Creative Producers and leaders internally.
The Creative Head should enable the team rather than become the bottleneck for the team.
3. Own the Creative System
Ensure every content batch follows the defined creative process:
Idea Bank → Brainstorm → Creative Lock → Writing → QC → CP Alignment → Shoot → Learning → Next Creative Cycle
Ensure the team does not jump directly from a topic into scriptwriting without establishing the creative direction.
4. Conduct & Approve the Creative Lock
Before scripts are written, work with the CP and writers to establish:
Topic → Angle → Hook Direction → Key Message → Delivery System → Production Format → Visual / Props
The Creative Head is responsible for ensuring that the direction is strong enough before writing begins.
5. Script & Content Quality Control
Own the final pre-production QC standard.
Review content for:
Strength of topic and angle
Hook effectiveness
Script structure and clarity
Audience relevance
Client positioning and brand tone
Originality / freshness
Production feasibility
Repetition across previous content
Potential performance
Accuracy and research quality
The objective is not merely to make scripts grammatically correct; it is to ensure the idea, communication and execution are strong.
6. Maintain the Content Pipeline
Ensure every client maintains sufficient ready content and does not enter deadline panic.
Maintain visibility over:
Idea Bank → Creative Locked → Written → Head QC → CP Aligned → Shoot Ready
Identify shortages early and take corrective action before they affect shoots or delivery.
7. Capacity & Resource Planning
Monitor workload across CPs and writers.
Allocate or rebalance resources based on client complexity, upcoming shoots, writer capability, workload and deadlines.
Ensure that neither individual overload nor poor planning becomes the reason for content failure.
8. Drive Performance-Based Creativity
Creative decisions should not depend only on personal opinion.
Review:
Reel/video performance
Hooks and formats that worked
Content that underperformed
Client/audience feedback
Comments and audience behaviour
Emerging formats and trends
Convert these learnings into the next creative cycle.
Maintain approximately a 70/30 content approach where appropriate:
70% – Proven / planned / evergreen
30% – Adaptive / experimental / performance-driven
9. Run the Creative Learning Loop
After shoots and initial content releases, ensure the team understands:
What worked? → What didn't? → Why? → What should change next time?
Translate these learnings into changes in topics, hooks, formats, execution and scripting.
The objective is for every content cycle to become better than the previous one.
10. Conduct Weekly Creative Reviews
Run a structured weekly creative room with CPs and writers focused on creativity rather than status reporting.
Typical discussions should include difficult clients, new ideas, new formats, successful/failed content, hooks, execution experiments and learnings from shoots.
11. Develop the Team
Create a clear growth path:
Junior Writer → Scriptwriter → Senior Writer → Associate CP → Creative Producer
Writers should receive real exposure to clients, shoots, execution and performance so they understand why content works, rather than functioning only as desk-based writers.
12. Handle Escalations
Resolve normal creative and operational issues independently.
Repeated or serious issues should be escalated to the Production Head/Management with:
Problem → Root Cause → Action Taken → Recommended Solution
Management intervention should primarily be required only for major client risk, repeated failures or business-critical decisions.
Key Performance Areas
The Creative Head will primarily be evaluated on:
KPA Expected Outcome
Creative Quality Strong, differentiated and client-relevant content
Delivery Reliability Scripts and shoots consistently ready on time
Content Pipeline Healthy inventory before shoot dates
QC Effectiveness Issues caught before reaching shoot/client
Content Performance Continuous improvement using performance data
Team Productivity CPs and writers operating at expected capacity
Rework Reduction Fewer repeated rewrites/resourcing cycles
Team Development Writers and CPs improving in capability
Process Discipline Creative Lock and defined workflow consistently followed
Department Ownership Minimal dependency on founders/management
Candidate Requirements
Experience: Preferably 5+ years in content, advertising, digital media, creative strategy, video production or a related creative environment, with prior experience managing a creative/content team.
The candidate should demonstrate strong ability in content ideation, storytelling, scripting, social-media content, creative direction and people management.
They must understand the relationship between idea → script → production → editing → audience response, rather than approaching creativity only from a writing perspective.
Strong communication, feedback, problem-solving, decision-making and team leadership skills are essential.
What We Are Looking For
We need someone who can build creative people and build a creative system at the same time.
A strong candidate should be able to look at weak content and identify why it is weak, guide the team toward a stronger solution, establish repeatable standards, and gradually make the department less dependent on themselves.
The success of this role is not:
“The Creative Head creates great content.”
It is:
“The Creative Head builds a team and system that repeatedly creates great content.”
Pay: ₹60,000.00 - ₹80,000.00 per month
Work Location: In person
