Full job description

BARISTA – ALL COUNTERS

Company: Voyage of Wellness (VOW)
Department: F&B Operations
Location: VOW Cafés / Hospital Cafeterias / Food Counters
Reporting To: Cafe Supervisor / Outlet Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time

ROLE PURPOSE

The Barista will be responsible for the preparation and service of beverages across all assigned counters, ensuring consistent taste, quality, presentation, hygiene and service standards as per VOW SOPs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES1. Beverage Preparation

Prepare all hot and cold beverages as per the approved VOW menu and standard recipes.
Prepare coffee, tea, shakes, smoothies, mocktails and other beverages as assigned.
Follow standard portion sizes, recipes and presentation guidelines.
Ensure consistency in taste, temperature and presentation.
Operate coffee machines, blenders, grinders and other beverage equipment correctly.

2. Counter Operations

Ensure the assigned counter is fully stocked and operational before the start of the shift.
Check availability of milk, coffee, tea, syrups, powders, fruits, ice, cups, lids, straws and other consumables.
Maintain proper mise-en-place throughout the shift.
Replenish ingredients and consumables as required.
Coordinate with the supervisor for shortages or stock requirements.
Support other beverage counters during peak hours as required.

3. Customer Service

Take and execute beverage orders accurately.
Serve beverages promptly and professionally.
Maintain a polite and customer-friendly approach at all times.
Handle basic customer queries regarding beverages and menu items.
Escalate complaints or service issues to the supervisor immediately.

4. Hygiene & Food Safety

Maintain personal hygiene and proper grooming at all times.
Wear prescribed uniform, cap/hairnet, gloves and PPE wherever required.
Follow all food safety and hygiene SOPs.
Ensure all ingredients are stored properly and within their shelf life.
Follow FIFO/FEFO practices.
Keep the counter, equipment and surrounding area clean throughout the shift.
Ensure no expired, spoiled or improperly stored ingredients are used.

5. Equipment & Maintenance

Operate all beverage equipment safely and correctly.
Clean coffee machines, grinders, blenders and other equipment as per SOP.
Perform daily opening and closing checks of equipment.
Report equipment malfunction or damage immediately.
Ensure equipment is switched off and cleaned properly at the end of the shift.

6. Stock & Wastage Control

Maintain proper control over beverage ingredients and consumables.
Follow standard recipes and portion controls to minimize wastage.
Record and report wastage as per the outlet procedure.
Inform the supervisor about low-stock items well in advance.
Ensure no unauthorized consumption or misuse of ingredients.

7. Opening & Closing Duties

Opening:

Check cleanliness of the counter and equipment.
Complete beverage mise-en-place.
Check ingredient and consumable availability.
Start and check required equipment.
Ensure all counters are ready before service.

Closing:

Clean and sanitize the counter and equipment.
Store all ingredients properly.
Dispose of waste as per SOP.
Complete closing stock / wastage requirements.
Switch off equipment as applicable.
Ensure the counter is ready for the next shift.

ALL-COUNTER RESPONSIBILITY

The Barista may be assigned to any VOW beverage counter based on operational requirements and must be capable of handling different beverage stations as per the outlet menu.

The employee is expected to:

Be flexible across counters.
Support team members during rush hours.
Maintain the same quality standards across all counters.
Follow the instructions of the Café Supervisor / Outlet Manager.
Assist in overall counter cleanliness and service when required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Minimum 12th pass preferred.
Prior experience as a Barista / Beverage Counter Executive will be preferred.
Basic knowledge of coffee and beverage preparation.
Good communication and customer-service skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced F&B environment.
Good hygiene and grooming standards.
Ability to work rotational shifts, weekends and holidays as per business requirements.
