Full job description

The AGM – Finance & Accounts will provide leadership and end-to-end ownership of the Finance & Accounts function, ensuring financial integrity, strong governance, effective working-capital deployment, regulatory compliance and high-quality financial information for management decision-making.

Beyond managing accounting and compliance, the AGM is expected to function as a business-oriented finance leader, working closely with senior management and functional heads to identify financial risks, improve profitability, strengthen controls and support sustainable growth.

A critical expectation of this position is the ability to anticipate problems and take ownership during crisis situations. The incumbent should be capable of rapidly assessing financial and business implications, developing options, mobilizing the team and other functions, and driving issues to resolution with minimal disruption to the business.

Key Responsibilities

1. Finance Leadership & Governance

Provide overall leadership to the Finance & Accounts function.
Establish strong financial governance, controls, policies and processes.
Ensure integrity and reliability of the company's financial information.
Act as a key financial advisor to senior management.
Develop a culture of ownership, responsiveness and financial discipline within the team.

2. Financial Reporting & Management Information

Own monthly, quarterly and annual financial closure.
Ensure timely preparation of financial statements and management MIS.
Present financial performance, key trends, risks and opportunities to management.
Develop dashboards covering revenue, margins, expenses, working capital, cash flow and profitability.
Convert financial data into actionable business insights rather than limiting reporting to historical numbers.

3. Business Planning & Financial Strategy

Lead annual budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial planning.
Work with business and functional leaders to develop financial plans aligned with organizational objectives.
Conduct scenario and sensitivity analyses to support management decisions.
Evaluate financial implications of expansion, investments, new products, major contracts and capital expenditure.
Support management in improving return on capital and resource allocation.

4. Cash Flow, Treasury & Working Capital

Take ownership of the organization’s cashflow and liquidity position.
Drive improvement in receivable days, inventory days, payable management and overall Net Working Capital.
Establish rolling cash-flow forecasts and early-warning mechanisms.
Manage banking relationships, working-capital facilities and treasury requirements.
Ensure funds are optimally deployed while maintaining adequate liquidity for operations.

5. Commercial & Manufacturing Finance

Partner with Sales, Marketing, Production, Purchase, Stores, R&D and Customer Service.
Analyze product, customer and business-segment profitability.
Review pricing, contribution margins and commercial terms for significant business opportunities.
Strengthen product costing and manufacturing cost analysis.
Identify opportunities for cost reduction, productivity improvement and margin enhancement.
Provide financial challenge and support to functional heads while maintaining a business-partnering approach.

6. Taxation, Compliance & Audit

Ensure compliance with all applicable direct and indirect tax requirements.
Oversee GST, TDS, Income Tax and other financial/statutory obligations.
Manage statutory, internal, tax and other audits.
Ensure audit observations and compliance issues are resolved within defined timelines.
Coordinate effectively with auditors, consultants, banks and regulatory authorities.

7. Internal Controls & Risk Management

Continuously evaluate financial and operational risks.
Establish appropriate preventive and detective controls.
Strengthen delegation of authority, approval matrices and financial SOPs.
Identify fraud, leakage and control risks and ensure corrective measures.
Develop contingency mechanisms for business-critical finance activities.

8. Crisis Leadership

The AGM must demonstrate visible leadership during difficult or unexpected situations.

Responsibilities include:

Identifying potential financial or compliance risks before they become critical.
Rapidly assessing the financial, operational, legal and reputational implications of an issue.
Establishing clear ownership and action plans.
Coordinating with management, banks, auditors, customers, vendors and internal functions as required.
Presenting management with solutions and options rather than merely highlighting problems.
Maintaining composure and sound judgement under pressure.
Ensuring root-cause analysis and preventive action after resolution.

Typical situations could include severe collection delays, liquidity pressures, banking disruptions, significant audit findings, tax notices, ERP failures, major accounting discrepancies, unexpected cost overruns or other events affecting business continuity.

9. Digital Finance & Process Transformation

Drive automation and digitization within Finance & Accounts.
Improve ERP utilization and integration across functions.
Develop real-time dashboards and exception-based reporting.
Reduce manual intervention and strengthen data accuracy.
Continuously simplify processes while maintaining strong controls.

10. Team Leadership & Capability Building

Lead and develop a high-performing Finance & Accounts team.
Establish clear KRAs, accountability and review mechanisms.
Build second-line leadership within the department.
Mentor team members and improve analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Develop succession and backup plans for critical roles.
Foster a culture where the Finance team is viewed as a business partner rather than only a control or accounting function.

Candidate Profile

Qualification

Chartered Accountant (CA) strongly preferred.
CMA or equivalent qualification may be considered for candidates with exceptional manufacturing finance experience.

Experience

Approximately 15–20 years of progressive experience in Finance & Accounts.
Significant experience leading Finance teams.
Strong preference for experience in manufacturing, engineering, industrial products or technology-led manufacturing organizations.
Experience interacting directly with promoters, MD/CFO, Board or senior management preferred.
