Job Description — Mechanical Design Engineer

About Motorall

Motorall is developing next-generation autonomous mobility and material-handling systems for warehouses, ports, mining and industrial logistics.

Our product portfolio includes Cyborg autonomous mobile robots for 200–1,000 kg payloads, as well as T-REX heavy-duty autonomous vehicles designed for 20–50 tonne cargo movement across ports, mines and industrial environments.
Motorall is building integrated robotic platforms combining mechanical systems, electric powertrains, drive-by-wire, sensors, autonomy, fleet management and industrial vehicle architecture.

We are looking for a highly capable Mechanical Design Engineer who can take ownership of the mechanical architecture of our robots and electric vehicles—from concept and CAD through prototyping, testing and deployment.

Role Overview

This is a hands-on product-development role, not a conventional CAD-design position.

The selected engineer will work on the design and development of:

Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs)
Heavy-duty autonomous ground vehicles
Electric/hybrid powertrain systems
Chassis and structural systems
Drive systems and wheel-end assemblies
Battery-pack integration
Steering, suspension and braking systems
Robotic mechanisms and payload interfaces
Modular robot platforms
Trailer/cargo coupling mechanisms
Mechanical systems for industrial and port environments

The engineer will work closely with electrical, electronics, controls, autonomy and manufacturing teams to develop complete working robotic vehicles.

Key Responsibilities1. Robot Mechanical Design

Design complete mechanical architectures for autonomous mobile robots.
Develop chassis, frame, body, payload decks and structural members.
Design mounting systems for LiDAR, cameras, radar, batteries, motors, controllers and other sensors/electronics.
Design mechanical interfaces for conveyor, flatbed, lift and robotic-arm top modules.
Develop modular robot architectures that can be adapted for different payloads and applications.
Design mechanisms for loading, unloading, docking and material handling.
Design mechanical safety systems, guards, bumpers and protective structures.
Develop mechanisms for autonomous docking and vehicle positioning.

Motorall's Cyborg platform is designed for 200–1,000 kg payloads and supports modular top modules including conveyors, flatbeds, lifts and robotic-arm integration.

2. Heavy Electric Vehicle Design

Develop mechanical architecture for large electric autonomous vehicles.
Design heavy-duty chassis and structural systems for high-payload applications.
Develop drivetrain layouts for electric/hybrid vehicles.
Work on motor, gearbox, differential, axle and wheel-end integration.
Design mounting systems for traction motors and power electronics.
Perform mechanical integration of battery packs and high-voltage components.
Design systems for serviceability, maintenance and component replacement.
Support development of vehicles intended for continuous 24/7 industrial operation.

The T-REX platform is intended for 20–50 tonne cargo handling and uses an electric/hybrid powertrain architecture for port, mining, construction and heavy-industrial applications.

3. EV Powertrain Development

The candidate should be capable of working on the complete mechanical side of an EV powertrain.

Responsibilities may include:

Traction motor integration
Gearbox/reduction-stage integration
Differential and axle integration
Driveshaft and coupling design
Wheel-end design
Torque and load calculations
Gear ratio selection and mechanical validation
Bearing and shaft selection
Powertrain mounting
Structural analysis of drivetrain components
Thermal-management packaging
Battery-to-powertrain mechanical integration
Mechanical protection of high-voltage systems

Experience with BLDC, PMSM, induction or other electric traction motors will be advantageous.

4. CAD & Product Design

The engineer will be expected to independently create and manage production-ready CAD.

Responsibilities include:

3D part modelling
Assembly modelling
Detailed engineering drawings
GD&T
Tolerance stack-up
Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
Design for Assembly (DFA)
Sheet-metal design
Welded-frame design
Machined-component design
Fabrication drawings
BOM generation
Engineering change management

5. Autonomous Robot Integration

The mechanical engineer will work alongside the autonomy and electronics teams to ensure that mechanical architecture supports autonomous operation.

This includes:

Sensor mounting and protection
LiDAR/camera/radar mounting
Sensor field-of-view considerations
Drive-by-wire mechanical interfaces
Steering actuator integration
Brake actuator integration
Motor/controller packaging
Battery and electronics enclosure design
Cable-routing provisions
Service access
Emergency-stop and safety-system integration

Experience

2–6 years of relevant professional/project experience.

Freshers should generally not be considered unless they have exceptionally strong hands-on experience through major robotics/EV projects, Formula Student, Baja, autonomous vehicle projects, research projects or demonstrated product development.

The ideal candidate will have previously worked on at least one of:

AMR/AGV/UGV
Electric vehicle
Autonomous vehicle
Heavy machinery
Automotive powertrain
Robotics platform
Industrial machine
Mobile robotics

The ideal candidate should:

Think from first principles.
Understand how a machine actually moves and carries load.
Be comfortable with both equations and CAD.
Be able to take a concept from a blank screen to a physical prototype.
Understand the difference between a laboratory prototype and a deployable industrial machine.
Be comfortable working with manufacturing teams.
Be willing to physically inspect and troubleshoot machines.
Have strong ownership and execution ability.
Be capable of independently driving a mechanical subsystem from concept to validation.
