JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Lead Full-Stack Developer — MEAN DEPARTMENT: Technology & Research
LOCATION: Remote REPORTS TO: CTO / CEO
ABOUT ENGAGEKART
Engagekart is a digital technology company providing end-to-end product engineering services. We are hiring a Lead Full-Stack Developer for our SaaS product Engagekart — a communications platform that enables enterprises with contextual, personalized two-way multi-channel mobile communications across SMS, voice, email, and PWA technology.
We believe in small teams of smart, committed, and diverse individuals working together to create breakthrough outcomes. Come and join us!
ROLE OVERVIEW
This is a hands-on technical leadership role. The Lead Full-Stack Developer is expected to spend approximately 60–70% of their time writing production code on critical and complex modules of the Engagekart platform, and 30–40% on guiding the team, code reviews, architecture decisions, and sprint coordination.
You will lead a team of 3–5 members (full-stack developers, BA and QA) while personally owning delivery of the most important components of the platform. This role suits senior engineers who love to build and ship, and who enjoy lifting a small team's quality through mentorship and example — not by stepping away from coding.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Hands-on Engineering (60–70% of the role)
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable web applications and backend services for the Engagekart platform using Angular, Node.js, Express.js, MongoDB, and TypeScript, with personal ownership of critical and complex modules.
- Architect and implement REST APIs, webhooks, third-party integrations, background jobs, asynchronous workflows, and queue-based processing systems.
- Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following established standards, and lead by example on engineering quality.
- Build and optimize SaaS platform capabilities, ensuring reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.
- Implement logging, monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting mechanisms to maintain platform health and operational visibility.
- Own production stability — investigate critical issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures.
- Implement secure coding practices and ensure proper authentication, authorization, access control, and secure handling of business and customer data.
Team Leadership & Delivery (30–40% of the role)
- Lead and mentor a team of 3–4 developers, fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, and engineering excellence.
- Drive sprint planning, estimation, prioritization, execution, and timely delivery of releases.
- Conduct code reviews and enforce coding standards, architectural best practices, and software development guidelines.
- Work closely with founders, product managers, and business stakeholders to translate product vision and customer requirements into scalable technical solutions and actionable development tasks.
- Establish release readiness processes, deployment validation procedures, and release checklists to ensure smooth product rollouts.
- Maintain comprehensive API documentation, technical specifications, architecture documentation, and operational procedures.
MUST-HAVE SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 4–6 years of overall hands-on full-stack development experience, with at least 4 years in the MEAN stack.
- Strong expertise in Angular, Node.js, Express.js, MongoDB, TypeScript, and JavaScript.
- Proven experience leading developers, owning technical initiatives, and mentoring engineering teams.
- Experience building SaaS products, enterprise applications, or large-scale web platforms.
- Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, webhooks, integrations, microservices, and distributed systems.
- Hands-on experience with background jobs, schedulers, event-driven architectures, and queue management systems.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, scalability, and performance optimization.
- Working experience with at least one cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including deployment, monitoring, and basic infrastructure management.
- Strong working knowledge of Git, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software development practices.
- Experience with testing frameworks and automated testing practices.
- Demonstrated ability to balance technical excellence with product and business objectives.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
GOOD-TO-HAVE SKILLS
- Experience designing and developing microservices at production scale.
- Experience using AI-powered development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor) to improve coding, debugging, and documentation productivity.
- Familiarity with security standards and compliance requirements for SaaS platforms.
LONG-TERM GROWTH OPPORTUNITY
- For high-performing individuals who demonstrate strong ownership, technical leadership, delivery excellence, and long-term commitment, the company may consider performance-linked long-term incentives, including ESOPs and/or sweat equity, subject to company policies, applicable approvals, and legal compliance.
- Equity participation is not guaranteed at the time of joining and will be evaluated after a defined performance period based on contribution to product development, platform stability, team mentoring, delivery ownership, business impact, and alignment with the company's long-term vision and goals.
WHAT WE OFFER
- A hands-on technical role with real ownership of critical components on a growing SaaS product — not a step away from coding.
- A remote-first setup with a small, smart team where your work is visible and your decisions carry weight.
- A culture focused on learning, growth, and engineering excellence.
- Clear career progression path with opportunities to take on larger leadership responsibilities.
- Competitive compensation aligned with experience.
