Full job description

Position: Sales Executive / Business Development Manager – Air Freight
Department: Sales & Business Development
Industry: Freight Forwarding / Logistics
Experience: 1–5 years in Air Freight / Freight Forwarding / Logistics preferred
Location: Chennai

Job Responsibilities

Generate new business opportunities for Air Freight – Import & Export services.
Identify and approach potential customers including importers, exporters, manufacturers, traders, e-commerce companies, and corporate clients.
Generate leads through cold calling, email marketing, LinkedIn, references, networking, and customer visits.
Understand customer requirements related to air cargo, shipment weight, dimensions, origin, destination, commodity, and delivery timelines.
Coordinate with the pricing/operations team to obtain competitive air freight rates and routing options.
Prepare and share quotations, rate proposals, and commercial offers with customers.
Follow up on leads, quotations, and enquiries and convert them into confirmed bookings.
Negotiate freight rates and commercial terms while maintaining the required profit margins.
Achieve assigned monthly/quarterly sales and revenue targets.
Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective customers.
Identify opportunities for repeat business, new routes, and additional logistics services.
Maintain accurate records of leads, enquiries, quotations, follow-ups, and conversions in the CRM.
Monitor competitor pricing, market trends, airline schedules, and customer requirements.
Coordinate with the operations team, airlines, overseas agents, customs team, and transporters for smooth shipment execution.
Keep customers updated regarding booking confirmation, flight schedules, ETD, ETA, and shipment status.
Handle customer queries and coordinate internally to resolve service-related issues.
Conduct regular customer visits and business meetings to develop new accounts.
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly sales reports/MIS for management.
Participate in logistics exhibitions, networking events, and other business development activities.

Skills Required

Good knowledge of Air Freight Import & Export operations.
Understanding of air cargo rates, airline routing, airport codes, and transit times.
Knowledge of Incoterms and international trade procedures.
Understanding of AWB, MAWB, HAWB, commercial invoice, packing list, and other shipping documents.
Strong B2B sales and business development skills.
Excellent communication, negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Strong lead generation, follow-up, and customer conversion abilities.
Target-oriented and result-driven approach.
Good knowledge of MS Excel, MS Office, and CRM software.
Strong customer relationship management skills.
Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Willingness to travel for customer meetings and business development activities.
