Profile Summary : Accountant (Finance & Accounts)

Job Description – Accountant (Finance & Accounts)

Job Purpose

To manage day-to-day accounting and finance activities, maintain accurate financial records, support statutory compliance, handle cash and banking transactions, assist in budgeting and payroll, and prepare periodic financial reports for management.

Key Responsibilities

1. Accounting & Bookkeeping – Full Responsibility

Record sales, purchase, payment, receipt, journal and contra entries in Tally.

Maintain day-to-day accounting and inventory records.

Update sales, purchase and inventory data regularly.

Prepare debtor and creditor statements.

Perform bank, ledger and inventory reconciliations.

Monitor outstanding receivables and payables and follow up for timely collections.

Maintain proper accounting records and supporting documents.

2. Statutory Compliance – Supportive

Ensure timely payment of applicable taxes and statutory dues.

Assist in GST, TDS, Income Tax, PF, ESI and other applicable compliance activities.

Support preparation and filing of statutory returns.

Maintain records and documents required for compliance and audits.

3. Budget & Costing – Supportive

Prepare and maintain expense and salary budget sheets.

Monitor department-wise expenses against approved budgets.

Assist in cost centre management and budget-versus-actual reporting.

Support preparation of event and other operational expense budgets.

4. Cash Handling – Full Responsibility

Handle daily cash receipts and payments.

Record all cash transactions in the cash book/Tally.

Reconcile physical cash with the cash book on a daily basis.

Maintain proper documentation and ensure safe custody of cash.

5. Banking – Partial Responsibility

Issue, receive and deposit cheques.

Reconcile bank balances with books of accounts.

Process authorized payments through RTGS/NEFT/net banking.

Prepare monthly bank/inventory statements as required.

Assist with documentation for foreign remittances, including A-2 forms where applicable.

6. Salary Preparation – Supportive

Collect approved attendance records from Administration/HR.

Prepare monthly salary sheets and applicable deductions.

Incorporate TDS, loan instalments, advances and other approved adjustments.

Obtain necessary approvals and coordinate timely salary disbursement.

7. Ledger & Financial Statements

Review loan, advance, fixed asset, cash and bank accounts.

Reconcile debtor and creditor balances with parties.

Assist in month-end closing and preparation of financial statements.

Provide supporting schedules and information for audit and management review.

8. MIS & Reporting

Prepare and submit month-end reports to the HOD within the prescribed timeline.

Prepare reports relating to sales, purchases, expenses, receivables, payables, inventory, cash and bank balances.

Highlight significant discrepancies or variances to the reporting manager.

Qualification & Experience

B.Com / Graduate in Accounting, Finance or a related field.

Approximately 1- 2 years of relevant accounting experience.

Good working knowledge of Tally and MS Excel.

Knowledge of GST, TDS, Income Tax, PF, ESI and other applicable statutory requirements.
