Job Summary:
The HOD - Plant Head is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of plant operations, including production, maintenance, quality, safety, and logistics. The role ensures that production targets are met while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and operational efficiency. This role also involves strategic planning, budgeting, team leadership, and driving continuous improvement across all plant processes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operational Leadership
Oversee daily plant operations and production activities.
Ensure optimal utilization of resources (manpower, machinery, materials).
Monitor production metrics and KPIs to achieve business objectives.
Implement and track Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives.
2. Strategic Planning and Execution
Develop and execute short-term and long-term operational strategies.
Participate in annual budgeting and cost control activities.
Align plant operations with company objectives and customer demands.
3. Team Management
Lead, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary team including production, maintenance, quality, and safety personnel.
Set clear performance expectations and conduct regular performance evaluations.
Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous learning.
4. Quality Assurance & Compliance
Ensure adherence to quality standards (e.g., ISO, GMP, etc.).
Coordinate with quality control teams to ensure zero-defect manufacturing.
Enforce compliance with industry regulations and internal policies.
5. Safety and Environmental Management
Promote and enforce a culture of health, safety, and environmental awareness.
Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
Lead incident investigations and corrective actions.
6. Maintenance and Asset Management
Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
Ensure optimal availability and reliability of plant equipment and infrastructure.
7. Stakeholder Coordination
Liaise with cross-functional departments: Procurement, HR, Finance, R&D, and Supply Chain.
Maintain effective communication with senior leadership and external stakeholders.
8. Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities for process optimization and cost reduction.
Implement modern manufacturing practices and technologies (e.g., Industry 4.0).
Champion Kaizen, 5S, TPM, and other CI initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Production, or related field). Master’s degree preferred (e.g., MBA or M.Tech).
8+years of experience in manufacturing/plant operations with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
Strong knowledge of production planning, quality systems, and industrial safety.
Proven experience in managing large teams and operational budgets.
Hands-on experience in Lean, TPM, Six Sigma, or other operational excellence methodologies.
