The Opportunity
UST is seeking a highly skilled, automation-first Windows Administrator, based in India, to support a US-based project in close partnership with our US team during US Eastern Time (EST/EDT) working hours. The role manages, modernizes, and optimizes enterprise Windows infrastructure across on-premises and Microsoft cloud environments—moving beyond manual operations to design scalable, intelligent automation that improves system stability, security, performance, and availability for business-critical applications and IT operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and continuously optimize Windows Server environments (2016/2019/2022) to maximize availability, performance, and security across enterprise infrastructure.
- Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, DFS, and related Windows services with a focus on standardization and automated configuration management.
- Design and build AI-assisted automation using Ansible, Python, and PowerShell to eliminate repetitive manual tasks across provisioning, patching, configuration, and lifecycle management.
- Engineer scalable, intelligent automation solutions and runbook-driven, self-healing workflows that reduce operational toil and mean-time-to-recovery.
- Monitor system health proactively, troubleshoot issues, and drive root-cause elimination to ensure high availability of services.
- Manage virtualization platforms such as VMware and Hyper-V, including automated provisioning and capacity optimization.
- Strengthen backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity through tested, automated recovery workflows.
- Implement and maintain system security, hardening, and compliance standards aligned with enterprise and Microsoft best practices.
- Support and optimize cloud-based Windows workloads in Microsoft Azure (hybrid and cloud-native).
- Collaborate daily with the US-based team during US Eastern Time (EST/EDT) working hours, ensuring strong handoffs, real-time support, and aligned delivery across the onshore–offshore model.
- Align on-call, incident response, and change windows to US business hours and the supported project’s operational calendar.
- Coordinate with network, security, cloud, and application teams to deliver integrated infrastructure outcomes.
- Maintain living documentation—architecture, automation playbooks, SOPs, configurations, and operational runbooks.
- Participate in on-call support and incident management, using automation to accelerate detection and resolution.
Required Skills
- Strong Windows Server administration and enterprise infrastructure experience, with a clear focus on building scalable, intelligent automation rather than manual operations.
- Proven proficiency in AI-assisted automation using Ansible, Python, and PowerShell (automation must not be limited to PowerShell alone).
- Expertise in Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and file services.
- Hands-on experience with VMware or Hyper-V virtualization platforms.
- Experience with patch management, monitoring tools, backup solutions, and systematic troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Azure services and hybrid infrastructure environments.
- Understanding of cybersecurity best practices, endpoint protection, and access management.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Willingness and ability to work US Eastern Time (EST/EDT) shift hours from India and collaborate with a distributed US team.
Desired Skills
- Experience applying AI / Gen-AI assistants and tooling to accelerate infrastructure automation and operations.
- Exposure to Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management at scale.
- Experience with Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, or Intune administration.
- Familiarity with SCCM/MECM, WSUS, and infrastructure monitoring tools.
- Exposure to storage, networking, and data center operations.
- Knowledge of ITIL processes and enterprise support environments.
- Prior experience supporting US-based clients or projects in an onshore–offshore model.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 7+ years of experience in Windows system administration and infrastructure support.
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, Azure Administrator, Red Hat Certified Specialist in Ansible Automation, VMware Certified Professional (VCP), or equivalent are preferred.
