Job Description: SAP BTP CPI – Vertex Integration

Role Overview

The CPI Consultant is responsible for designing, developing, and managing integration flows between SAP S/4HANA, the Vertex tax engine, and external systems using SAP BTP Integration Suite (CPI).

Key Responsibilities

CPI iFlow Development & Integration Design

Design and develop CPI iFlows for Vertex-related integrations, including:

- SAP S/4HANA to Vertex tax engine

- SAP to external systems, e‑invoicing portals, and APIs

Support both synchronous and asynchronous integration patterns.

This responsibility is highlighted in the JD for March 2024 v20.

Vertex Integration Enablement

Enable and support CPI-based integrations for:

- Tax calculation and data exchange

- Invoice processing and validation

- Cross‑module requirements across FI, SD, MM, and BRIM

Reference flows are documented in the Nielsen PPT Template Feb 2026.

Adapter Configuration & Connectivity

Configure and work with adapters such as HTTPS, SOAP, REST, IDoc, SFTP, and OData.

Integrate SAP systems with:

- Vertex

- Government e‑invoicing portals

- Third‑party tax and finance systems

Adapter requirements are noted in the JD for March 2024 v20.

Data Mapping & Transformation

Perform message transformations using graphical mapping, XSLT, and Groovy scripting.

Map SAP invoice and tax attributes to Vertex‑specific formats, ensuring accurate payload structure, enrichment, and validation.

Use of Groovy scripting and mapping is highlighted in the KM FY26 Q4 Jan 12 case study.

Monitoring & Error Handling

Monitor CPI integration flows through:

- SAP BTP Cockpit

- Integration monitoring tools

Configure exception handling, error-handling mechanisms, and retry/logging frameworks.

Compliance & E‑Invoicing Integration

Support CPI integrations for:

- SAP DRC e‑invoicing

- Government tax portal communication

Ensure secure document exchange and validation workflows.

CPI’s role in Vertex–DRC architecture is referenced in the Nielsen PPT Template Feb 2026.

Performance Optimization & Security

Optimize flows for:

- High‑volume tax processing

- Low‑latency integrations

Implement secure communication via OAuth, certificates, and data encryption standards.

Collaboration & Lifecycle Management

Partner with:

- ABAP teams for backend enhancements

- Functional teams (FI, CO, SD, MM)

- Vertex SMEs

Contribute to testing cycles (SIT/UAT), deployment, and release management.

Required Skills

Core CPI Skills

Strong hands‑on experience with SAP BTP Integration Suite (CPI)

Development of iFlows, message mappings, and Groovy scripts

Knowledge of A2A and B2B integration patterns

Technical Integration Skills

Experience with REST/SOAP APIs, IDoc, Proxy, and OData integrations

Understanding of middleware transformation concepts

Strong knowledge of SAP S/4HANA integration architecture

Vertex Tax Knowledge

Experience with Vertex integrations (mandatory for niche roles)

Understanding of indirect tax processes (VAT, GST, Sales Tax) and compliance flows

Experience

5–10 years overall SAP experience

2–5 years in SAP CPI / BTP Integration Suite

Background in integration‑heavy SAP–external system projects

Nice to Have

Experience with SAP DRC e‑invoicing

Multi‑country tax implementation exposure

Knowledge of API Management and Integration Advisor

Familiarity with SAP PI/PO migration to CPI

Skills

Mandatory Skills : Concur Integrations, SAP BTP Security, SAP CPI (Cloud Integration-APIM-Integration Advisor-Open Connector-Event Mesh-SAP CIG)
