Full job description

Job Summary:

The Duty Medical Officer (DMO)- Only MBBS registration must. Responsible for providing medical care in various hospital settings, including the Emergency Room (ER), Ward, Outpatient Department (OPD), and Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The DMO will oversee patient care, perform assessments, prescribe treatment, and provide emergency medical services. The role requires quick decision-making, strong clinical skills, and the ability to work in high-pressure situations.

Key Responsibilities: Emergency Room (ER):

Patient Assessment and Care: Evaluate and treat patients presenting with acute medical conditions, injuries, or other emergencies.
Diagnosis and Treatment: Provide initial diagnoses, stabilize patients, and initiate immediate treatment.
Emergency Procedures: Perform emergency procedures (e.g., suturing, intubation, trauma care) as required.
Coordination with Specialists: Collaborate with ER specialists, surgeons, and other departments to ensure patients receive appropriate care.
Documentation and Reporting: Document all patient assessments, diagnoses, treatments, and responses to interventions in medical records.
Patient Transfers: Coordinate with the hospital’s admitting team for the transfer of critical patients to appropriate departments (ICU, surgery, etc.).

Ward:

Patient Monitoring: Conduct daily rounds, assess the progress of hospitalized patients, and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
Treatment Administration: Administer prescribed medications and treatments, monitor for adverse effects, and adjust treatments based on patient responses.
Discharge Planning: Assess patient readiness for discharge, provide discharge instructions, and ensure proper follow-up care.
Collaboration: Work with nurses and other medical professionals to manage the care of patients in the ward.
Emergency Care: Provide immediate care and interventions for patients in the ward who require urgent attention.

Outpatient Department (OPD):

Consultations: Provide routine medical consultations for patients presenting with non-emergency conditions.
Diagnosis and Treatment: Conduct thorough physical exams, review medical histories, diagnose conditions, and prescribe appropriate treatments or medications.
Referrals: Refer patients to specialists for further evaluation or treatment, as necessary.
Follow-up Care: Ensure that patients are scheduled for follow-up appointments and monitor progress on long-term conditions.
Preventive Care: Educate patients about preventive measures for common diseases, vaccinations, and lifestyle changes to improve overall health.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU):

Critical Care Management: Provide intensive care to critically ill patients, including those on life support or requiring advanced medical intervention.
Monitoring: Continuously monitor patients for changes in their clinical condition, adjusting care plans based on their response.
Collaboration with ICU Team: Work closely with intensivists, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other specialists to manage complex cases.
Ventilator and Life Support Management: Oversee the management of patients on ventilators, dialysis, or other life-sustaining treatments.
End-of-life Care: Provide compassionate care and support to patients and their families in end-of-life situations, ensuring ethical decisions are made regarding life support and other interventions.

Qualifications:

Education: Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
Licensure: Valid medical license to practice in the hospital’s region.
Experience:
Experience in emergency medicine, ICU, OPD, and general hospital wards is preferred.
Experience in managing both acute and chronic medical conditions.
Skills:
Strong clinical skills and decision-making ability.
Proficiency in performing medical procedures and using medical equipment.
Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and the medical team.
Ability to handle stressful situations and manage multiple priorities in emergency and intensive care settings.
Certifications: Advanced Life Support (ALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and other relevant certifications may be required depending on the hospital’s policies.

Personal Qualities:

Compassionate and empathetic towards patients and their families.
Strong leadership and teamwork abilities.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
High attention to detail, especially in patient care and documentation.

Working Conditions:

The position requires working in a 24/7 hospital setting, with rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
The role involves frequent interaction with critically ill patients, requiring the ability to manage high-stress environments.
Regular exposure to infectious diseases and potential health hazards due to the nature of hospital work.
